Will a '59 Conv. D work for you?
It's a finished car: Ruby Red over black, needs nothing - it's a real sweetheart.
PM me if you're interested and we'll go from there. Pricing should be "market honest"...
Cheers

Life is way too short to drive boring cars.
I think Paul Russell has one for sale. Another (Ivory) one is for sale in Europe (Advertised in the latest C&SC), EC had one for sale but it appears sold.
Since those are the usual suspects/ sources, I assume you checked with them already.

Mileage: 53,343 miles
Color: Red/Black
Description:
This Porsche is the 3rd of just 151 Factory built Carrera Speedsters. It is one of the earliest examples known to survive. This Carrera Speedster was built in December, 1955. It was completed and issued a certificate of origin on January 4, 1956. In the fall of 1955, Porsche experimented with seven pre-production Carrera Speedsters fitted with various four-cam engines and other modifications. This was done in order to test the idea of a limited production run of cars that would be made available to select clients... The first of these was completed on September 14th, 1955. The second prototype was built in November with the remaining five being built in early December. Shortly thereafter, a limited run of just eight production Carrera Speedsters were assembled in the final weeks of December 1955. As already noted, this particular car was the 3rd of these completed. The remaining 136 Carrera Speedsters built after January 1956 all utilized the revised 356A Speedster bodies. Today the handful of early Pre-A Carrera Speedsters are the most highly sought out by collectors and enthusiasts due to their extreme rarity... Externally, the only real visual difference between this car and the regular production Speedsters was the small Carrera script on the sides of the front wings or fenders and another found centrally on the rear of the car. The main difference of course, is the engine, which instead of being a low horsepower push-rod unit, is instead one of the ultra-rare high output Carrera Type 547/1 four-cam units. With nearly double the horsepower and significantly more torque, these were and remain some of the very best performing 356 Porsches ever conceived. This car was originally ordered new by the official distributor, Max Hoffman from his offices in New York. The original exterior color was white with a standard black leatherette interior. The first owner and the next four subsequent owners all raced this Carrera Speedster extensively on the West Coast, mostly in and around the San Francisco Bay area. This Porsche continued to race well into the late 70s As such, it is regarded as one of the oldest Carreras with the longest racing histories known to still exist. This car has participated in both the Colorado Grand and the California Mille without fault or incident. To date this is the only mileage on the vehicle since the entire restoration was completed in 2005. Clearly, this is one of the very rarest and most desirable of Porsches legendary Speedsters.

Many of the T1 speedsters, 56 in particular, came from the factory 4cam ready. They had the fuel regulator bracket on the engine bulkhead and the holes on the left side of the engine compartment for the oil tank and lines. Buy a beater 56' and mate it with the 4cam of your choice, a 692 3A would be nice, you'd have a killer hot rod not that far off from correct. It would be vintage correct because that's what they did back in the day. I know a popular upgrade back in the day was to go to an RSK engine or specs. Also many carrera speedsters were raced with pushrod engines. Also the last few 58' pushrod speedsters came with GT bodies if you can find one. Ask me how I know...any way 56's are cool. SS
Richard,
Do you want the 59 Carrera for a collection or do you want a car to drive and enjoy? If it is for a collection I wish you well on your search. If you want a bad ass car to drive then might I suggest this option. While I can appreciate a real ones beauty I'm more into having fun. Intermeccanica built the first Replica Speedster in 1976. The company is 51 years old and still going strong. I built this car after selling a 1660 356 Sunroof Coupe that I spent 5 1/2 years restoring. While that car was a 95 point beauty and fun to drive I was worried all the time about someone crashing into me.
Good luck!
