What is the best way to attach rear license plate? For a 1970 did one use a specific bracket or was license plate attached by four bolts to the license plate panel?
Thanks.

Having worked at Porsche dealers in that time frame, I can tell you it was up to each dealer as to how they chose to do it. Generally it was a generic mounting bar bolted to the panel, and then the plate bolted to it.

Are we talking a simple straight bracket similar to what was used on the 356's or a more elaborate "H" type bracket that will accept four corner bolts of a license plate?
Thanks.

The places I was at used the simple straight bracket, and over the years I think that's the bracket you see most. However I think the 'H' bracket looks a little more 'refined'.

I also need to install a rear license plate. Does anyone have a photo of the correct placement of the bracket? (the simple one piece bracket shown above in the thread).
Thanks in advance...

Well, actually, the bracket kinda has to go in a position determined by where you want your plate to be be, which I try to center in the license panel. Put some tape on the panel, position the plate where you think it looks right, then do some measuring to be sure, bolt the plate to the bracket and mark your bracket holes on the tape. I prefer to use nut inserts instead of sheet metal screws, or you could use the nut and bolt method, but you'll have to remove the muffler to get the nuts on the backside.

So it sounds like either the straight bar or the H style were found on a 1970 car. Which one results in a better looking final appearance? And/or does the straight bracket allow rattling? I need to pick one and would appreciate input if anyone has experience with both.
As always - Thank you,
Best,
