Factory respray and change of color?

    Hello,

Recently purchased a '70T that has a paint code of 8181, metallic red on the plate and the COA also states this. Now the interesting thing is the trunk and engine compartments look silver under lousy over spray of what appears to be a metallic purplish color and now a guards red. My question is would the factory ever take an already painted car(silver) and respray it with the optional body color of metallic red 8181(025) as per a customer order? Any ideas? TIA.

I recently painted a 74 US carrera that had a silver overspray (original) in front compartment.
The car was Sahara beige from factory.

Hmm. I wonder why in some cases they didn't bother to shoot the same body color in the trunk or engine compartment like they typically did?
