Don't know if anyone has seen the new tire size from TOYO yet.
It is 235/50X15 and with the 225/50X15 up front it would be good for 7&8s or 8&9s.

Yeah, I've got them on some 8's and 9's....they look pretty good. The tread pattern is a little modern for my tastes but beggars...

Saw these on the TOYO site about 2 years ago and was going to pull the trigger seeing there were the magic size for my 7 and 8 flared car. Randy Wells called me to report he had just finished a track day with a friend that was running the 888's on 7 and 8's on an early car. He said they couldn't get them to perform as good as the RA1's all day.... So I didn't get them and went again with 225 RA1's all round. I hear the 888's work much better on the track in the bigger wheel sizes (less side wall).......... Anyway, seeing I run the same tire for street and track, and the selection keeps getting smaller, I've been looking at these 888's in the 225/235 all over again........

The R888 seem to be very polarizing. I know some people love them, others hate them. A fellow canyon-carver loves them on his backdated SC.

We've run a few sets on my 2.0L racecar when RA1s weren't available for a while. I didn't think that they were as consistent as the 225 RA1s on 8s and they ran out of grip fairly fast. The 888s felt pretty good out of the box, but seemed to degrade much more quickly as we ran through a number of heat cycles over the weekend. This was a pretty consistent assessment among other drivers under our tent. I've had no experience with 888s on the street and this is not a scientific track test by any means. Just another opinion to consider.

Word on the 888's a few years ago was that they ultimately could be a little faster than the RA1, but they heat cycled out sooner and were more finicky on setup. I made the switch and unfortunately that was exactly my experience.
The old RA1's were awesome-just run them right to the cords....I bought them shaved at 5/32 and didn't use them on the street much. The 888's would just stop gripping one day, even though they had plenty of depth.
I'm now running RA1's in the 205/50 225/50 sizes on my 15" 7's and 8's...not really right and the front is way too low....I rip off my A arm scoops every time I drive the car. On the track I have the 225/245 Hooiser R6's on 15's.
I hear the more recent RA1's are now like the 888's-they heat cycle out before the tread wears out but I have no first hand experience as mine are new and I only use them on the street.
I'm fascinated by the Avon CR6ZZ's, would love to know how they hold up for hard 30 minute track sessions and how they might compare with the other popular R compound tires.
So Toyo...give is the old RA1 compound, the RA1 tread pattern and a 235/225 or 245/225 combo!

I heard that as well Lee...
The RA1's are a bit squirrely out of the box and get better and better as they ware ... until they're gone.
Now I have heard good things about 888's in the bigger wheel sizes... they were the spec tire for the POC's Boxster series and it seemed people liked them.....
If only someone would make those sizes that REALLY worked in a DOT or street tire........ wishes were fishes

Timely topic....
I literally, just finished mounting the Toyo 888s on my car...an hour ago. I put 225/50/15 on 7" Fuchs, on all four corners. My car is a non-flaired '75, and the 225s fit nicely... I'll be using them mostly for the street. I run Hankooks on the track.
I look forward to seeing how these Toyos run....
