I appear to be missing this trim "thing" which finishes the dash / key, and I can't seem to find when I search here or on the web. Does anyone know what this is called, or know where I could get one for a 1968S? Thanks in advance.

Escutcheons are the rings under the door handles. What you're looking for is called a bezel. I think I have one - i'll take a look and get back to you.

For what it is worth, my money is on escutcheon. Widely used in the furniture business for many centuries as a surround plate covering a mechanical lock: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escutcheon_(furniture)

Heck, I feel a bit better now, as I searched somewhat extensively between here, PP, Stoddards, eBay, etc., and couldn't find a name for it either... I found one thread here in which someone mentioned a very early car having a brass one I think. Any luck finding the "elusive plastic thingy that's gone missing from my car", JohnA?
Thanks,

Your ignition switch appears to be a replacement "Bosch fit all" switch. Your car is a "Euro" car and would have come with a locking column ign switch. Those things tend to fail miserably. It would have had spade terminals on the back. the switch that is in your car probably has screw-on terminals on the back and the barrel of the switch is smaller that the original barrel that the "escutcheon" screws onto. US delivered cars got a non locking switch that has a smaller barrel. as well. That is probably the reason the escutcheon is missing.

If Jim calls it an escutcheon, it's an escutcheon. Here's what I have - not sure what it fits:
