    1972 RS questions??

Ok, so a friend it's buildind a 72 into a RS replica (oil tank in the rear fender) and he was telling me that there were actually a few 72 built RS like this? Then the conversation jump to the cooling that was used in this 72 cars....He said that this car used the cooling tubes that run on the bottom right side of of the car to a especial radiator mounted on the inside of a front fender, then he show me a diagram with a exploded view of this set up which really finish with this discussion. The thuth its that I am not 100% convece on this matter since I really don't see this tubes on the RS pictures hat I have seen or the oil cap on the rear fender. I think the exploded view that he show me was used on S cars in 72 but again I don't know.
It be great of someone can clear this for me.
1.- Are there 72 RS built with the fender oil tank?
2.- Did they used the colling tubes to run the oil to a front radiator?
    Thank You.

    Hi,

Yes, two cars come to mind. One is the first prototype which was a '72S chassis that was supposed to be a new model called the 2.7S and the other was another '72S that was made into an RS, with the correct rear flares along with RS front and rear spoilers, for the ONS. The first prototype didn't have the RS front and rear spoiler as these were not finalized yet. This car looked very much like a '72 model, but with rear flares and of course a 2.7L engine. The engine lid even had a black 911S emblem and the grille had a 2.7 emblem.

I don't know what the oil system was like on this car. I am assuming it had a trombone cooler, but just a guess. Hopefully someone else knows.

A couple of other thoughts. The first 4 RS serial numbers 0011-14 are model # 911.544 (which is the S model #), but they all have '360' not '330' in the VIN. The ONS car had a '72 VIN even though it looked like a '73 RS.

I any case, no rear spoiler and no Carrera Script was seen on 72MY built.
They basicially had a "flared 2.7l 911S" look.

I recall that the current german owner of RS No.13 told in a interview that the rear oil flap on his car had NO use and was just an 72 leftover.

Not positive but I THINK the radiator was this type. This one is from a 74 Carrera which IIRC ran the same engine as the 72-73 RS

^ If so, that looks the same as the '69S cooler.
