I need some help!
Currently I have 3 911T Targa's and I am thinking of selling one in order to purchase a coupe. The two that i am trying to choose between are a 1972 911T and a 1973 911T. Here are the details…
#1
72 911T Targa
Matching Engine number
Transmission is not matching number but correct for the car per the COA.
Currently White (should be Silver per COA)
Black Leatherette (currently has incorrect seat covers)
US Equipment
Light Metal Wheels
Raised Steering Wheel Hub
Comfort Equipment
Blaupunkt Radio Frankfurt US Band
Air Conditioning
Dunlop Tires
This car is a good driver that needs a some TLC. Very little rust, solid floors, solid car. The car has Webers (needs MFI installed which I have in a box) needs a carb adjustment, bushings in the trans, brakes, along with some other simple corrections. If I kept the car i would invest $10K to $12K to do the above noted repairs, paint the car back to its original silver, clean up the interior by replacing the aftermarket seat covers with good original covers that i have, get the wheels refurbished, along with a few other items. I would complete a very good, driver quality, light restoration.
#2
Early 1973 911T Targa
Non matching number engine from a 72T.
However i may have a lead on an unstamped case for this car. I also HAVE the original pistons, heads, and original MFI to the car
Transmission number is not noted on the COA.
Currently light yellow (should be signal yellow per COA)
Black Leatherette
US Equipment
Option Group G03
Forged Alloy Wheels
Stabilizer Bars F/R
Blaupunkt Radio
Comfort Equipment
This car is in better shape then the 72. No rust and a great interior that needs very very little. I would spend $5K to $7K to paint the car it's original color, signal yellow, tune up, and clean the car thoroughly. Much less invested for a car that has an "S" front bumper, great wheels with no rash, and good options. This too would be a very good, driver restoration. I like to drive my cars!
So here are the questions in need of answers…
If all things being equal, which year is more valuable? Is a 72 more valuable for being a one year body due to the oil tank door? Is an early 73 more valuable since it is the last year of the long hood cars?
Since things are not equal…
Is a matching number 1972 that needs more work more valuable then a non matching number early 1973 in better overall original condition considering the options each car has?
Is a matching number 1972 silver car more valuable then a non matching number (or unstamped case) 1973 signal yellow car? Does color matter between these two?
Alright guys…let the expert panel begin offering some wisdom. I need it as I am at a loss of what to do here…
Thanks!
