WTB: Getting married - Looking for a clean early 911 in Europe

So, I'm getting married in Tuscany this September. And, in return for paying for an Italian wedding, I've convinced my bride-to-be that we're going to spend our honeymoon bombing around Europe in a vintage Porsche. I want to buy something there and have it shipped home when the honeymoon's over. Now I just need the car.

I'm starting my search early to give myself the best possible chance of finding a great car. Most importantly, I need a really turn-key and reliable car. Something that I can rely on for a couple weeks of intensive driving. If we end up spending a significant amount of our honeymoon broken down on the side of the road, it's going to be a very short marriage. Other than that...

I'd prefer a 1969-73 car but I'd also be open to the right SWB car.

I'd prefer an S, followed by an E, followed by a T - a coupe is preferred over a targa.

I'd prefer something reasonably original and well-documented although I'm not completely against something that's been modified or is outside my comfort zone if it's a really special car. Does Magnus have an Italian cousin?

The closer to Italy the better but I'll go anywhere in Europe for the right car.

Interesting colors and options are always appreciated.

I'd prefer to buy from an enthusiast - someone who really knows that car - rather than a dealer.

I have a lot of time so I'm going to really look hard for the right car. If I find it early, I'll store it until the wedding but I have 8 months to find something great so I'm in no rush (yet). I appreciate any and all leads on quality cars.

Why don't you just find what you are looking for Stateside and ship it over? Along with the fact there are more of these cars to choose from here in the States, odds are what you are looking for in Europe (i.e., condition, documentation etc..) may have came from the States anyway.

Oh and BTW, congratulations on the pending marriage.

I already own several early 911's that I could ship over but that kind of defeats the point (the point being that I've carefully devised a perfect excuse to buy yet another early car and she thinks it's as much her idea as mine).

I think the plan that both of you have thought through is perfect.

Well, I was always told that marriage is about teamwork and compromise. So far, I'm liking this teamwork and compromise thing very much.
