After a lot of discussion and back-and-forth with those who know FAR more than I will ever know I settled on 964 cams. In the end it was - like most engine decisions - a compromise. The 964 grind should give me decent big-end power without giving up too much on the bottom. I'm hoping the extra displacement (3.2L) and static compression (8.5:1) will give the motor the off-boost manners I'm looking for when exiting slow corners and driving around town, and the cam choice will get the party started a bit sooner than, say, a Gruppe B or 935 camshaft.

I'm searching for 325rwhp at 65-7000RPM. That would be 125 more than I have right now.

The bottom end of the motor is built for 8000+ RPM, so there's room to grow when the time is right. I also have a 3.3L recirculating valve and big intercooler setup waiting in the wings if the itch for more boost needs to be scratched (which I doubt it will).

Extensive balancing of the rotating assembly, lightweight rods with good rod bolts, forged pistons, and some other tricks of the trade learned the hard way and not mentioned in books.

Oh man, that car is going to be so fast. I wish mine built power earlier but when it hits 4500+ it just screams and I have been pretty happy with the SC cams. Do you think you will have any problems with fuel enrichment using the 964 cams and the CIS? I really look forward to see what kind of numbers you put down. I have been debating converting my CIS to EFI although I guess one advantage of my engine being soft down low is that it shouldn't strip my 915 transmission as quickly as a torque heavy N/A engine.

    Hi Marco,

it will be a very cool engine, a good friend of mine just built a 3.0 short stroke turbo, i can't tell you how it's responsive ;-)

Did a quick engine clean up before heading over to Sun N Fun Saturday.
I'm trying out some Gibbs on the fan as it was starting corrode.
