Metallic Gold was an extra cost option in 71-73 911's (not sure how much).
Aubergine was not that popular back then - but sure seems desirable today.
How do you think the market views Gold cars these days?
Thanks all.

Some colors add value to longhoods like Viper green/signal yellow. Metallic gold is a cool period color but just not everyone's cup of tea. I would say that for the right buyer it actually can command a premium price. It's just that not everyone would want to drive around in a gold car. I've seen some pics of this car in the registry and when done right it's uber cool.
There is no way that Metallic Gold could dethrone Sepia Brown as the worst color.
Not even a debate here.
Like most metallics gold can look magnificent when presented in bristol condition.
But when it's aged, faded, and clear coat is showing its age it doesn't fair so well.
I love metallic gold. And I think the rarity of the color certainly helped that '74 coupe sell for north of 130K on Ebay a few weeks back.

metallic gold AND sepia are value-plus colors in my book. would be happy with either over really stale colors, like red.

Metallic gold is a big plus for me. Sepia is not.

Metallic Gold has clearly never been one of the popular colors on longhoods, but in the right conditions can be absolutely beautiful. I've had a low mileage, very original, extremely well-optioned Gold Metallic '71T for the better part of 20 years, and still have mixed emotions. It is obviously not a "sports purpose" candidate, and I don't personally think it does well in bright sun. But in low light conditions , it is gorgeous. I think of it as a rich, gentlemanly, striking but subdued personality. Mine is currently being returned carefully to it's original glory. It's a good counterbalance to the boldness of my Viper Green E.

I had a 1972 911S Targa that was originally gold... It was special ordered by Burt Sugarman the Producer of the TV show "Midnight Special" back in the early 1970s.
The car was very heavily optioned with Short Gears he called them "Airport gears" (which at the time I had never heard of), Limited Slip, Sport Seats, AC, Full Leather etc.
I also remember back in 1975 my buddies father special ordered one of the very first 1976 930 Turbos... I remember racing over to look at the first Turbo Porsche I would ever see. When I saw the car for the first time I almost puked. He chose to have his TURBO in Sand Beige! He already had a 67S in Sand Beige which I hated.
I can't imagine a worse color for a Porsche especially a Turbo. It almost looks like the color of the primer.
Maybe because it is such a horrible color for a Porsche that it might be considered cool today? At the time I hated Aubergine but now love it. I also once had an original 72 911S in Powder Blue.
