Judging by the vacuum hose to it, it would appear to be a vacuum controlled valve. I would have to dig out old shop manuals for proper name.

Funny. Just the other day I thought "If someone was restoring a U.S. spec '68 911 would they bother putting all of the smog crap back on?"
Now I know.
I'll be in touch if I have one.
Different setup from what I have. Frank will love this one. Not only does it have smog, it is also a Sporto.
The smog is for show. The Sporto is for go.

Oh yeah, saw this on Ebay the other day. Mostly complete for the poor soul trying to "backdate" his '68 911 normal.

Lastly,
I think that is a 912 smog part. (picture heisted from the interweb)

We referred to it as a gulp valve. It had to do with shutting off or rerouting the pump on deceleration?
BTW, All smog pump equipment was to be removed in 69 as it was no longer needed to pass the regulations.
Only cars that had it still on weren't dealer serviced and didn't know of the bulletin.
We were still removing the smog stuff as late as 77.

Sportos and Sepia are obviously a matter of taste (similar to those folks who enjoy having diarrhea and then admiring it.) but a smog system? I think all would agree, that is a barnacle that we all wish Porsche never installed. Smog system + Sporto? Now that's something to boast about John. Lots of hoses. I am curious: Why did you leave the system on?
The "kit" on ebay is actually not a bad opportunity for someone dead set on restoring a '68 back to stock. But why?
yes correct - that is a 912 smog part - not for a 911 six
