This wasn't my first Porsche but it was my first 356, worked on it in an alley in Brooklyn, just me and the rats.

. . . now --- if this isn't a threade that could use a good bümp . . .
Mine was 87901 . . . a 1960 Porsche Roadster that I bought from a broker --- Ron Ely (?) . . . in Scottsdale, AZ, back ~1990
Neat car. Purchased after ~2-year search. Earl Scheib re-spray over original everything --- engine, trans, floors, longitudinals, battery box . . . even came w/ her original date-stamped hub-caps
Had her 13 years. Swapped-in a month correct S-90 motor that I got from Craig Stevenson, then added a Schmid GT tank, 5 X 4"w GT wheels --- steel centers + alloy rims w/ copper rivets . . . re-built the transaxle. Nothing else
Last shot is the night I sold 'er --- to Ritchie King @Karmann Konnection . . .

Think he still has 'er . . .
1965 912, 451326, bought February 1968 for $3995, shown here that summer in my parents' back yard in Pennsylvania.
About 150,000 miles of fun later, the car--now restored--sits 20 feet away from me here in Boulder, Colorado. That mileage includes a ton of track time in PCA time trials, winter driving, and trips to several Parades (won its concours class at three Parades). Here it is in 1973 on Loveland Pass in Colorado:
Still have the original 4-1/2-in steelies (plus a set of 5-1/2s) and 7-in Fuchs for the autocross tires. Bigger torsion bars, sway bars, front brakes, rally seats, Nardi steering wheel, 1720cc, better headlights, but still No Radio and Rubber Floor Mats!

My first was a red 1951 split window 356. I bought it in 1967 for 2k from a used car lot in Mexico City. The original owner was a german living in Mexico City. He had consigned it to the lot.
Original Telefunken radio still worked, but the engine had really low oil pressure due to a spun bearing.
I put a roller bearing crank 1600cc VW motor in it, no torque but once it got going it was a screamer. A "friend" of mine jumped into it drunk, spun it and totaled it.

My 1st Porsche was a Boxster 987 2.7, sold it 3 months after I bought it.
My 1st 911 was a 997 2nd generation with PDK and a loads of options.

My first Porsche was an '84 - 944 and is still in the garage.
It came along in July of 1984 after ordering out a new Porsche from a dealership 200 miles away in 1983.
They were hard to get, people were on lists and most everyone paid over list price. I loved it when I first laid eyes on it and still do. A few more have come along since then.....
It was ordered out with the sport suspension package, LSD, heavy bars, and a special tweaking at Weissach, with about 50 miles of sorting it on track, then signed off by one of the testers.
( seen here with FUCHS removed and aftermarket road wheels and tires installed, on a fall run with our local Porsche club Nord Stern, at Blue Fin Bay, Lake Superior )

My 59 Super with Rudge knockoffs. Unfortunately I've lost all my old slides with pictures of this car and my 1970 Irish Green 914-6.
This is the only picture left of the 59. I was living in Aspen, Co. at the time and was giving the car a tuneup. Several evenings a month I would drive over to the track and buzz around for a while. I NEVER saw another car on the track in the middle of the week when I was there. I was there 72 to late 75. Rent was $85.00 a month living in town and you could cover it in one night waiting tables. A year later I moved to Sun Valley. The cost of living there was less.
The sorta clean cut picture was teaching skiing for Aspen Corp. The tuneup picture was summer. The ape picture was late fall just before I had to clean up again to meet the clean cut standard to teach skiing the following winter and spring.
