    Fuchs finish

    Hi folks,
I put a lot of effort into bringing back some deep 6 'ers to life by hand - they were very untidy - and now they are very nice and in a raw scotchbrite finish. I had intended to leave them like that and apply the black out but thinking ahead it might get a bit tedious looking after them so I am considering my options.

My question is if I were to get them anodized to preserve the natural finish what is the longterm stickability of the black paint on top of the anodizing?

In my experience, paint sticks great to the anodizing. Lasts a LONG time with the right care.

For best results use a self etching primer first. It will bite into the anodize and provide a good surface for the black top coat.

Your wheels should be polished on the top of the spokes and outers before anodizing or they won't look like they should.
If you use air dry enamel it will stick to the anodize much better than raw aluminum...Most other paints don't stick as well without etching primer.
After they were anodized the wheels were originally dipped in a vat of black paint without primer then baked .
Use etching primer if you don't anodize.

It is a satin black...sometimes called matt but I have seen matt describe flat also. I really don't think there is any standard descriptive use for the amount of gloss in a paint.
Even semi-gloss matches in some brands. As long as it is not flat and leans more towards gloss......
Very similar if not the same as used on the suspension and engine tin.
It is about 70-80% gloss if that means anything. Even that scale is corrupted...
Best is to buy some spray cans and do a test panel to see what you like.

I used Dupli-Color Trim paint and was happy with finish on my '71 deep sixes. I didn't want to do a full refinish on them because they were in decent shape but the black had faded. There was enough black left so I could tape off the edges, first I cleaned them real well then "0000" steel wool then tack cloth very satisfied.
