So a test article about S -UN 764 (most likely chassis 300 005) was actually first published by ams in January 1965.
Then, two months later it appeared again in R&T march 1965, still with German plate and probably still on German soil.

Since 300 005 was from the very first batch of 901 cars, most likely the January 65 ams/March 65 R&T tests were the first test report of any 64built 911.
300 005 is actually -and most likely- also the (bahia red?) Press car published in many press shots as well as in Aichele' and recently again in Lewandowski' 901 book.

    thx

does not look like on the images, this is why i do assume the mysterious metal part from #299 being on the b saeule is the fixing point / screw for the rear window frame....

Today I came across a new item that might have been a change early 1965. On the steering house for later cars it looks like they had only one type for left and right hand drive, whereas on early cars they did not. As you can see on pic 1, this house (from 300700) has only 1 mounting point for the damper (blue circle). On Pic 2 (a MY66) you see 2 mounting points of which obviously only 1 was used.

When were the first RHD cars produced? This might have been the moment that they changed to the new type (?)

    Rhd '65

The first four RHD cars were almost 'hand produced' off the line in Werks1 in two batches of two cars, starting March '65 with disparate completion dates for each car......what might be called 'regular' RHD production didn't start until July a little time after these first four cars had been completed.

Note for "RHD '65 production" in total there were only between a dozen and two dozen chassis produced- rarer numerically than even the '64's- so any RHD manufacturing changes would be for only a handful of RHD 901/911 cars.

However we can't forget the 912s which in RHD were made in more numbers, so any manufacture upgrades could have been for 912s also.

Wow, what a unique car you have!

My 301379 (May 65) also has a double cam steering house, so indeed it seems to have been changed much earlier than 'serial' 911 RHD were released. I like your point on the 912's most probably being the more important driver for changing to the 2 cam steering house.

I have not checked my 912 from early April 65 yet. Hope to do that soon.

The luggage hooks come up so every now and then.

I don't know whether this is related but at least a change regarding the front luggage compartment is mentioned in this factory letter dated 21st of April, 1965 which is about the same time.
