This 1972 Porsche 911T, chassis number 9112100628, is a project car that is believed to retain its original engine. Engine #6122229 falls in the correct range for a ’72T but there is no COA to verify. The car was originally Royal Purple and had been sitting for many years before the seller acquired it two years ago – it runs poorly and will need mechanical issues sorted including a stuck transmission. Body rust is documented in over 100 photos below, and the car is offered with a clean Idaho title.
An amateur white respray is cracked and flaking off in a number of areas – body panels look reasonably straight but signs of failing bodywork show under the flaking areas. The whale tail deck lid and later-style rear bumper were fitted by a previous owner, and fog lights are missing up front.
Rust has afflicted numerous areas as shown in the gallery below, worst among them an eaten-through trunk floor.
The corners of several window openings and the driver’s door bottom are also rusty, but a replacement door is included in the sale along with a spare oil filler flap.
Trim and glass look complete but lenses, weatherstripping and other rubber parts are aging. Some foam tape is left over from previous wheel well trim, and 15″ Fuchs are serviceable but wear a variety of older mismatched tires.
Inside, both front seats are torn with the driver’s side the most afflicted. Rear seat upholstery appears in good condition, carpet is a bit worn but serviceable, and the headliner is stained.
Both door panels have been cut for aftermarket speakers, with a later head unit in the aluminum dash panel. The upper dash pad is badly cracked, while the lower item shows mounting holes for a prior accessory.
Under the whale-tail rear deck sits the 2.4-liter flat six, numbered 6122229. Its mechanical fuel injection looks to have given way to carburetors somewhere along the line – it will come to life with a bit of starter fluid, but runs poorly. Further, its 915 five-speed transmission is stuck in gear – the seller is unsure if the reason is linkage-related or internal, but the car will roll with the clutch disengaged.
Underneath, heavy undercoating and substantial grime from drivetrain leaks appear to have protected floor pans and some running gear, but other areas have fared less well as shown in the gallery.
88k miles are indicated but likely inaccurate according to the seller, who purchased the car two years ago as a project but is moving it on to more capable hands – he feels he does not have the skills to do a proper home restoration on the car. Little history is available and no service records were provided by the previous owner, but the car is sold with a clean Idaho title.
