    BaT's Description:

    - Mostly complete project
    - Complete interior
    - MFI swapped to carbs
    - Engine running but poorly
    - 915 transmission stuck in gear

This 1972 Porsche 911T, chassis number 9112100628, is a project car that is believed to retain its original engine. Engine #6122229 falls in the correct range for a ’72T but there is no COA to verify. The car was originally Royal Purple and had been sitting for many years before the seller acquired it two years ago – it runs poorly and will need mechanical issues sorted including a stuck transmission. Body rust is documented in over 100 photos below, and the car is offered with a clean Idaho title.

An amateur white respray is cracked and flaking off in a number of areas – body panels look reasonably straight but signs of failing bodywork show under the flaking areas. The whale tail deck lid and later-style rear bumper were fitted by a previous owner, and fog lights are missing up front.

Rust has afflicted numerous areas as shown in the gallery below, worst among them an eaten-through trunk floor.

The corners of several window openings and the driver’s door bottom are also rusty, but a replacement door is included in the sale along with a spare oil filler flap.

Trim and glass look complete but lenses, weatherstripping and other rubber parts are aging. Some foam tape is left over from previous wheel well trim, and 15″ Fuchs are serviceable but wear a variety of older mismatched tires.

Inside, both front seats are torn with the driver’s side the most afflicted. Rear seat upholstery appears in good condition, carpet is a bit worn but serviceable, and the headliner is stained.

Both door panels have been cut for aftermarket speakers, with a later head unit in the aluminum dash panel. The upper dash pad is badly cracked, while the lower item shows mounting holes for a prior accessory.

Under the whale-tail rear deck sits the 2.4-liter flat six, numbered 6122229. Its mechanical fuel injection looks to have given way to carburetors somewhere along the line – it will come to life with a bit of starter fluid, but runs poorly. Further, its 915 five-speed transmission is stuck in gear – the seller is unsure if the reason is linkage-related or internal, but the car will roll with the clutch disengaged.

Underneath, heavy undercoating and substantial grime from drivetrain leaks appear to have protected floor pans and some running gear, but other areas have fared less well as shown in the gallery.

88k miles are indicated but likely inaccurate according to the seller, who purchased the car two years ago as a project but is moving it on to more capable hands – he feels he does not have the skills to do a proper home restoration on the car. Little history is available and no service records were provided by the previous owner, but the car is sold with a clean Idaho title.

I don't usually post dealer listings, but this one at RS seems exceptional (probably the price too).

Up for sale is a beautiful, numbers matching 1973.5 Porsche 911T CIS Targa in black over black. This car has been really well cared for over the years and it shows. This is a sharp looking long-hood with regular waxing the car and the black paint is like glass. There is no rust on the vehicle, and this is a really good example of the most desired version of the long-hoods. The 2.4 engine with CIS fuel injection are original to the vehicle. The 911 starts right up every time, runs excellently, and has good power throughout the gears. The engine compartment on the vehicle is nice and tidy as the car has been well kept. There are no engine or fluid leaks which is common for early 911s. The 915 transmission in car shifts very well through the gears and the car is currently fitted with a short-shift kit. The interior of car is really nice and clean. Currently there are black cloth Recaro seats in the car, but the original black vinyl seats which will be provided to the new owner. The car has good door panels, pockets, and door hardware. The car has a nice looking dash cover, but the original dash is cracked underneath. The headliner for the Targa top is great condition, the sun visors in the car are also new. All the gauges work with the exception of the clock. Recently fitted a Nardi steering wheel in the car, but the original steering wheel will be provided to the new owner with the purchase. The undercarriage of the car is in good condition as the floor pans and rockers are very dry and original to the vehicle. There are no rust bubbles in the usual places such the doors corners, fenders, and below the windshield (see pictures). The vinyl Targa top on the 911 is in really good condition with no aging or tears. All exterior moldings and seals are in good shape as well. Trim pieces (bright work) are in good shape along with the rubber. As previously mentioned the 73.5 Targa has really good paint a few minor rock chips on the hood from driving the vehicle. The car is fitted with front and rear sway bars. Suspension bushings are in decent shape as the car does not squeak. The car originally came with 15x6 (deep six) Fuch wheels, which are still in good shape with new Yokohama tires (including the spare). The brake rotors were recently resurfaced, along with adding new brake pads. I also recently replaced the batteries in the vehicle. The 911 Targa currently sports European H4 headlamps, however I do have the original sugar scoops and hardware which will come with the car. Per the COA on the car, the engine and the transmission are original to the car. The original colors for the car were brown over brown. Along with the COA, I will provide the owners manual, bilstein jack, and tool kit for the vehicle to the new owner. - See more at: http://www.carsauto.com/1973-porsche....nGKS8gpR.dpuf

Description written by the Original Owner:

“My wife and I bought the car new at the factory in March 1969, during a delayed honeymoon trip to Germany.

I am an aeronautical engineer, a pilot, and an aircraft mechanic. I was working on the Apollo Spacecraft during my last year in college, and due to a lot of overtime I ended up earning more money than I expected. So my wife and I decided on a delayed Honeymoon to Germany and to buy the Porsche. When I graduated we went to Germany to pick up the car, and tour the country. In those days if you drove the car 1000 miles you could bring it back to the US as a “Used Car” which saved a lot of taxes.

We went to Stuttgart upon arrival, picked up the car, took a factory tour, and then drove around Europe for 6 weeks.

Following that, I shipped the car from Rotterdam to Long Beach, California where we lived.

I took my wife in the Porsche to the hospital when my 1st son was born, and then 24 years later we drove it to his graduation from US Naval Flight Training. It only has 29,400 miles on it, so you can see that I have not driven it much, but I have loved it and taken great taken care of it all these years.

As a surprise gift, my wife had the car repainted in the original Polo Red color in 1990 by an expert shop here in Pittsburgh. The car had faded due to the sun exposure while in California.”

    +1

    From an after-the-fact AC system.

A factory install was so much cleaner. What dealers did the get condensers installed in the front pan to making the hole for the evaporator blower intake was akin to Civil War battlefield surgery.

I'd like to see what's under the rugs up front if they did add the much needed front condenser.
