Seriously, guys do not do this

My beloved Jim passed away a couple of weeks ago. After 37 years he left me with a lot of memories of kids, Porsches, cycling and hunting and fishing.

He also left me with a shop full of Porsche "stuff" much of which I do not know how to deal with. Please do not do this to whoever it is you leave behind. None of us lives forever and at some point these kinds of hobbies need to be scaled back. I had suggested that he go through some of his hoardings but I guess they were treasures to him that he could not part with.

So please keep this in mind and don't let your Porsche passion, or whatever passions you have, get out of control.

    Karla

    Karla,
I am sorry for your loss. We all have the same problem, not being able to judge the end of our hobby with the end of our life. Most of my friends knowingly want to die with their collection intact. It is difficult for the survivors. I have faith in the hobby that there are honest and fair people to help you with liquidating of your "stuff" and still pay homage to the enthusiast that collected it.
Frank can and will help you through this.

Sorry for your loss Karla. My best wishes to you and the family.
I understand where you are coming from.
I know of two guys that passed and their wives found out they had a number of cars and parts squirreled away.
At least my other half knows exactly what we own and I do not have boxes of stuff to worry about.
Good luck. I am sure the guys on here would be most helpful

    Hi there, Karla.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my father last week ... luckily, he and I have worked together (on Porsches) every day for the lat 15 or so years so I know what and where ALMOST everything in the shop is (for example, I didn't know he was sitting on a set of 67S heads for the last 35 years until he sold them to a client a few months ago ).

My only suggestion to you would be to find someone you trust who knows what they are looking at and get them to help you sort through everything. There are a great number of folks who are willing to help you, all you have to do is ask.

Best wishes to you and your family as you work through this very difficult time.

When Im gone my hoard will be passed down to the kids (if they are interested) or sold off for the estate.
It will be sold off for what it is truely worth as it has real value. (as long as i have it organized when the time comes...)

Having the right person go through the hoard will fetch you proper money for the parts and put it the hand of those who will put it to good use.

Just as a hint to others. As a surgeon recently had an ooops moment while working on my bowels, and my wife was sitting outside and had some horror scenarios going through her brains....
I've made a list whom to ask to sort out which stuff.
So I've got a list: one person for seats, one for wheels , one for BMW Parts, one for tools and one for the rest who should help her sorting out stuff in case something happens.
    Just do it!
    Cheers

This topic comes up quite often with my wife and I. It's not so much a matter of extracting every last dollar out of a bunch of things but rather identifying and organizing said things. To those unfamiliar with manstuff it can appear to be overwhelming. Karla, I would encourage you to deal with your grief right now and take as long as you need for that process.

If I remember correctly when I visited you and Jim, his "stuff" is very manageable and nothing my wife and I couldn't help sort out on a Saturday morning. As others have said, this community can offer second opinion on pricing and even assist with selling on ebay if you decide to go that route. Again, my sincere condolences.

    Uli,
Surgeon and "oops" are two words that should not be read in the same sentence.
