    SWB engine fan restoration

Is there anybody out there who does accurate restorations of magnesium SWB engine fans? They look to have had some sort of a clear anodizing?? looks different from the later fans which have a brown hue over them. Any help greatly appreciated.

    TIA,

    JK

I believe that early 1965 fans are aluminium and look different to later magnesium fans which were chromated as were the housings.

    <a href="http://s197.photobucket.com/user/FennLane/media/DSC00001_zpsqun6iqvc.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/FennLane/DSC00001_zpsqun6iqvc.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC00001_zpsqun6iqvc.jpg"/></a>

We re-chromate magnesium fans and have made rivets to refit fan centres after re-plating.

    Chris,

Thanks. My engine might be an oddball out. It is a december '65 engine and has a mag fan but an alu ring/housing.

What diameter? '065's fan is aluminum, I know this because Ollies welded it.

Early fans are 250mm dia rather than the more common 245mm - We have seen a number of cars with incorrect fan/housings where the gap between the blades and the housing is too large and this does affect airflow.

We have refurbished around 100 fans and housings now and have supplied more than 3000 rivets.

I'm extremely pleased with the fan/housing that Shaun Budka at Tru6 (shaun@tru-6.com) did for my 65 911 (#1744). It was in rough shape to start with, but told him I wasn't looking for an over-restored finish. He delivered! Shaun also did my chrome window frames, etc. I was introduced to his work a few years ago at Hershey. He's a tru craftsman!
