I overfilled the max mark on the dipstick by about 3/8 of an inch. What are the repercussions if I leave that much oil in the system?

Not sure what year but it sounds like about a quart too much.
Drain some off and avoid any of the known repercussions.
Your wife's turkey baster with some clear hose should do it,,

Oil will drain to the combustion chambers... You will see white smoke from the exhausts.
This will not hurt anything until you have a catalytic exhaust.
Take your car to a ride and drive it hard or drain some oil from the tank as suggested from NZVW
Thanks guys!

It was almost a qt overfull. I used a transfer pump I use for filling 901 transmissions in the opposite direction. They're maybe 6 to 8 bucks at Harbour Freight. I reduced the suction side to a smaller hose so it would go further into the tank.

I once forgot to drain the oil cooler during a change and then filled up with the same number of quarts I always use. Then went for a drive, wondering why oil pressure was so high. Figured it out pretty quick and drained the excess. But the oil pressure gauge hasn't been the same since. Registers way too high sometimes. Did I destroy the sender or the gauge?

Assuming you mean the oil 'level' gauge, then yes, it's possible that the high level in the tank may have slightly bent the float arm.

The oil pressure gauge, Ed. Have you ever heard of that?

How does one drain the oil cooler, and why would that be necessary?
