    Hello,

I've just bought a grille which has been painted... although the paint has been stripped off the easy to clean surfaces..... that is the horizontal bars. The mesh and supports are still black.

I am toying with the idea of either:
    1. completely redoing / re-chroming it
    2. cleaning it up, and removing the paint.

If I go with option 1 what tricks are there.... and is there anything I need to be wary of?

If option 2 - what paint strippers / materials should I use? It has taken me a while to find a grille and I don't want to ruin it.

At the moment I am swaying towards option 2 - the grille has some patina, a little like the car!

    Hi Justin,

The rails are bright aluminum anodized I believe. Not chrome. The mesh is black anodized aluminum.

Paint stripper is not going to harm the anodizing. To restore the anodizing the grill has to be taken apart because of the steel bolts. It's a chore. The rails have to be spread a bit to remove from the rails. The only way to seperate the bars to remove the bolts is drilling the bar rivets out.

I have one that was completely painted black. I'm going to be stripping it this weekend. Most any paint stripper should work.

Anyone know if oven cleaner will remove black anodizing like the Fuchs anodizing?

    The grille I need for my 68 911L is a 3bar.

I hastily bought a 5 bar thinking it would fit....maybe it might? I haven't tried

I have sent a private email to see if this is still available.

I will be in the US for the 50th Parade @ Hershey so perhaps could arrange to pick it up then? Assuming that is it is still available.

    Justin,

The 5 bar will fit fine, it is just not the correct one.

On the 3 bar grill, I think Harry said he had decided not to sell for now (or maybe he didn't want to sell it to me )
