    restoring 72 chrome side mirror

My side mirror could use a little TLC. I'd like to replace the glass and at the same time pop out a small ding and get it rechromed (or maybe a good polish would work). Anyone have any experience doing this?

I'm not sure but I think the mirror is stainless steel. I don't know how you refinish stainless steel but would like to know as well.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

Some years ago, there was a PANO article on refurbishing a '73 RS mirror...damned if I can remember the issue month or year though.

Let me know if you find the article. I only have Pano's going back to 2002. I'm particularly concerned about popping the glass out and then getting a new seal.

Groan...I was afraid you'd ask that...this is going to take me some time, thumbing through the indexes of a HUGE pile of PANO copies. But do hang in...and please don't just start tearing away at your mirror. If I recall the article correctly, it wasn't a simple job. PM your snail mail address, Bill. No scanner here. When/if I find the article, I'll send a photocopy....Paul (edit update) Found it! PM your snail address, okay?

Paul: I've been following this post in case someone came up with an answer. Would you mind making me a copy of the article too? I can get it from you at the PDX historics this weekend if you will be in the PCA corrall on Saturday.

You might PM me an address as well, Jayzoll...I may not make it Saturday. Still keeping an eye on the weather reports that are now predicting rain all 3 days. Bill, I'm going to town soon...your copies will be mailed today...

Paul: I just sent you my address. Hopefully the forecasters are wrong and I'll see you on Saturday (mine's the red 1973 S targa). If not, thanks again.
