Definitely getting a thorough prep for paint! Should be a great looking car when finished.

    Great history and story...
Nice to have another Early 911 in the Chicago area.
Not sure I am liking the approach with the front suspension so far.....as you know there are several overlapping stamped panels spot welded in a sequence, but assume they will get it right.
Please keep us updated on progress.

Well, blue72s asked about the door so brace yourself, ‘cause this story hurts ..... I had planned to drop off the car in early October with The Last Detail in North Chicago for the full body and paint restoration work. Literally the day before I was due to drop it off, I was playing golf with my wife and son and as we were leaving the parking lot a totally clueless soccer mom in an enormous Infinity SUV drove right into my right front quarter panel and door as she was exiting the parking lot from the adjacent hockey rink. Ouch (literally). Thankfully, I was only going 15mph and she was slowly pulling out from a stop sign, but it was enough to do this (requiring a new door skin and right front fender):

It sucks because this car has been our family since 1972 and owned by me since 1992 with ZERO accidents, so this was frustrating beyond belief. It was 100% her fault and she took full full responsibility. So on the positive side, my insurance company ended up getting their insurance company to pay the FULL amount of the estimate from The Last Detail, so in the end it worked out fine. But I definitely won’t repeat the string of expletives that I unleashed when that woman literally drove right into me

Spring Update - Paint & Buffing!

After a long winter of work, we’re nearing the finish line and even Coronavirus can’t stop progress on Chester! The paintwork and buffing is just about done, and the next step is installing a brand new wiring harness before dropping in the original engine and gearbox and finally the interior, while the original Fuchs are getting redone by Harvey Weidman to wrap everything up. Slow but steady progress, but thankfully we’re still on track for our planned Memorial Day delivery.

The guys at The Last Detail have been excellent to work with, and the results are really impressive. There was a little more rust than I was hoping to find, and more than “just a few” dings and dents from the last 52 years have all been taken care of. Here are few pics before the wiring harness starts going in next week, and I’ll shoot out an update with pics over the coming weeks.

    Some Eye Candy ...

More progress on the final steps .... Just got all 5 of my original 5 1/2” x 15” Fuchs wheels back from Harvey Weidman after a full refinish. And OH MY, these look good

Can’t wait to wrap up everything to get Chester back on the road by June!

Amazing story - loved reading all of this! Are you going for Michelin XWX tyres on those wheels?
