    Richard, the only one on the list of exceptions that I have is the first, 301981 which happens to have the first 902/1 fitted: 221722 Invoice date happens to be Sept 15, 1965.
    I do not see the conflict that you suggest, but I do see that 1966 MY production began before the August summer break. I do see invoice dates in the gap between July 30 and Aug 16, so while production was shut down, some activities were still functioning. I do see that my last 901/0 serial # was off by 200, so there had to be a typo in the Spec book as seen in post 496 and what I have had in my tables for many years. Factory literature is not immune to typos! I am not infallible either. However I am learning much more today.

    I think it should be remembered that the transition from the straight knee pad to the U-shaped knee pad required a change in the shape of the dash itself. I would think that in as much as possible the body shop would have used up essentially all of the early dash frame first before using the new dash frame later. With the exception of the RHD cars, this may be most defining characteristic of the transition. However, I would like to hear from experienced body men who have been able to carefully examine the differences side by side.

    The other thing I think I should mention is that it appears the 901/0 to 902/1 transition occurred either on a two day split or during one day, July 26. This does not mean that the transmission shop change occurred the same day; In fact it probably happened several days earlier. They would generally have a few days stock on the assembly floor at all times. This was not a just-in-time production facility.

    That number is a 902/1 gearbox misidentified on the Kardex as a 901/0

    Road Scholars had a late 356 (SC) with the same paint. It was a while back and the car sold, wonder if the original

    If you look carefully at the photos of the accident damaged car on the BHCC advert from 2017, you can still see traces of the original Gelbgrün...

    You can also see that the damage didn't go too far back into the structure of the car.
