Thread: Changing thoughts on 914's

  1. #91
    914-6 with a 2.4-6 is a blast,,,type4sale sounds like tin cans..
I spent many hours snapped under a tonneau in a 58 speedster.. still have the gear whine in my ear..

    my first 914-6 2.4 E 1979
my full GT specs 2.0 Carrera 6 spec
my GRNMNE 2.7 twin plug going to 3.2

    Had 73 911T mfi
    69 911T
    72 Targa
    78 SC
    84 euro Turbo
    79 924
    944,s
    have 87 Carrera

914's may be not the most rigid platform stock, but the basics are great...mid engine, feels like my old go kart as a Kid..
no matter, it is a VW Porsche.

Old thread...time to ask again about your thoughts on a 914. I bought mine because I wanted a cool-looking sports car that was easy to work on, cheap to get parts for (I had no idea prices would get higher) and fun to drive. The fact that it wasn't "cool" was fine with me. I get looks all the time, and mine is a stock 1.7L painted gray.

    914

We enjoy our 73 914 2.0 with fuel injection. Ravenna Green also stops people in their tracks.

My thought definitely changed over time. I had never even sat in a 914 untill 15 yrs ago.
And that was in a car I bought from a photo and my brother helping.
So the first time I was in one, was on the uhaul trailer, when it arrived at my house.
I have kept it all those 15 yrs. As a second owner. And only last month was the only time it didn't start.
It's resting. I think it's the best car I've had.
I'll get to it in a month. I'm going to fix it and sell it.

    Current long term ownership: 63 Cab, 71 911, 74 914

What many do not know: recaro made a model of the bucket recaro rallye 1 especially for the 914 and launched it on the market in 1971. although recaro activated porsche direct sales and (at least in germany) all porsche centers encouraged their customers to offer their headquarters only relatively few copies were sold. the picture is an illustration from porsche's technical guide. the seat was made for the series rails of the 914 and therefore fits plug and play in every 914/4 + 914/6. if interested, I would still have some of them for sale.

    regards

    @recarno
indeed, I was never aware of this set existing for the 914.
could you post some close up of the seats?
fabrics like on the pic? black with cordura insert?
and to come back to the standard seats - which are really comfortable even for long distance travels - and passengers:
in Germany the 914 is officially registered as a three seater car,
with a 2point seat belt for the middle passenger,
if you have the middel cushion, option # .....

It's interesting that Scheel and Koenig also made 914-specific seats, and like the Recaros what sets them apart is the seat back angle... it's more upright.

Scheel used the stock seat rails and headrests that mimicked the stock versions. Maybe Pete Stout will post pictures of his; like the Recaros they're rarely seen.
