The last time I took my stock matching numbers 1972 911S to the track I drifted through turn 1 at Pacific Raceways at 120mph. That was ten years ago. Even then I knew I should protect the car better and track my '72T with RS flares and 3.2L motor instead. Since then the S has been given a quality respray in its original color and tidied up. The 911T is still driven at DE events (now in ST form with a 3.6L). It's a blast and surprises many modern 911s. However... I just had both cars appraised and insured for what it would cost to replace them. And those numbers would give anyone who isn't very wealthy pause for thought. The new values are becoming a factor for most ordinary folks in how the cars are treated.
