    horn grill variances

I have 3 sets of horn grills for SWB. In every set I have a very distinct difference in measures between the left and right grill. The ribs are different, the length is more or less the same and especially the height shows large variance. At first I thought I have grills of different years, but it is always in the same direction for all 3 sets.....could be of course but if I would always hit such chance, I'd move to Vegas.
Not yet though....maybe the moulds used at the time were different. Anybody any similar experience?

The funny thing is that on my car currently in restoration the sets fit perfectly, as if it were made to fit at the time.

The below shows the measures of one set (in mm), where you see that the height differs some 3-4 mm, IE ~5% (compare B and A measures)
The thickness of the standing rib near the front hood differs 1.4 mm, >15% at the top (measure H)

what i have seen is that the upper and lower bar are the ones that make the main difference...those have been machined different in order to correct the fender/bumper/light unit tolarances.
sometimes also the left and right bars are machined

and i also think the numbers tell the size.

also the holepattern is different on some.

many cars i have seen have different left/right size pairs.

just had a custy at my shop to find the correct size for his 65.....he failed....he needs a left #3 grill(what you say haul)

I thoughts there were 3 different sizes denoted by the number stamped on the rear...

My second set has a 4 stamped on the LHS grill, but the RHS has no number marking only the FG sign.

There's a similar discussion on the "General Info" page of this forum" 4 screw grill!. It's very interesting how these things happen independently.

When I got my car, it had what I assume was a replacement fender with a two-screw grill. We got the mounting tabs modified and I found a replacement four-screw grill. I also think I have a spare pair of four-screw grills (but one of them's bent). I never noticed that there might be a size variation.
