All very excellent points.
The cars that I have in mind are those that have been built by many members and a few shops.
An early car with a later stock 3.0, 3.2, 3.6 - a very presentable but not show quality paint, nice interior with some peter seats, and mechanically sorted out as you said Randy. My scenario excluded (without ill will) the very trick $20K motors, $20K paint jobs, $7K interiors. I do believe these cars can command a premium and I enjoy seeing these cars.

I guess my thoughts were more in regard to how things have changed in the 5-6 years of my p car ownership. It use to be that one could easily be very upside down in purchasing/restoring an early car and never expect to see close to what you put into it. Back then it was sometimes difficult to justify that new engine or paint job. It has never been about seeing the car as an investment but rather have fun with it and build the car you want. When it comes time to sell hopefully a few other people will agree with your "dream car".
