    Auction Description:

This lovely 1971 Porsche 911E Targa spent many years in the dry climate of New Mexico, then in North Carolina for approximately 10 years before coming back west to California in 2016. This car possesses its original numbers matching engine, complete with MFI, and a non-matching but period correct 901 5-speed transmission.

In California, the car has received a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration, completed in 2016, that included a complete bare metal glass out respray in the original Irish Green, with new rubber seals throughout the car, new suspension bushings throughout, new front and rear shocks, new rear wheel bearings, a restored brake system with rebuilt calipers and new rotors, powdercoated suspension components and an engine out service with re-sealed motor. In addition, the targa top was professionally restored, new interior carpet was installed, the front seats were restored with period houndstooth inserts, door pockets were restored and various interior trim was recovered. At the time of restoration, the car received two new Interstate U911 batteries.

Excellent gaps throughout. This car has solid original floors and front pan, a testament to the years spent in a dry climate of New Mexico. Most trim is original and in excellent shape. COA in hand confirms engine is original to the car; transmission is a non-matching period correct 901 5-speed transmission.

At least the MFI is still there but the tachometer is newer and does not indicate an 'E' redline.

It is a shame how some cars just seem not to be able to settle down and stay with one owner for awhile.

    Auction Description:

    • Matching numbers car finished in seldom seen Conda Green
    • Factory appearance group option
    • Known ownership from new
    • Accompanied by Porsche Certificate of Authenticity

Offered here is a hallmark chapter from Porsche’s history in this fine 1970 Porsche 911E Coupe. As Porsche builds go, chassis number 9110200496 with engine 6201428 was a nicely optioned car with Fuchs aluminum alloy five-spoke lightweight wheels and a rare rear exhaust apron. It also left the factory with U.S. specifications, meaning that it had sealed-beam headlamps, a speedometer that recorded in miles per hour, and a lighting group that was compliant with U.S. DOT regulations. This 911E has been treated to a high quality repaint in its original factory color of Conda Green, a very rare and attractive color. The Porsche factory appearance group also added full instrumentation, premium quality carpet and wider rubber trim on the bumpers. The exterior appearance is also nicely set off with a set of front and rear bumper guards and stainless rocker panel covers. The interior was recently treated to new carpeting and the dashboard was refinished in correct black vinyl. Driving is comfortable with bucket seats in a cockpit that is truly a “driver’s” environment. Instrumentation is straight ahead of the driver and this Porsche still retains its factory Blaupunkt radio for a classic period-correct look. This is also a matching numbers car that is powered by a 2.2-litre flat six with mechanical fuel-injection that makes for 155 horsepower. This engine has been completely rebuilt and runs excellent and appearance-wise the engine compartment is clean and well-sorted. Power reaches the rear wheels through a five-speed gearbox and the Fuchs alloy wheels keeps it glued to the road. This example left the factory with a self-leveling hydro-pneumatic front suspension system, but in the interest of upgraded performance it is now fitted with front struts and an anti-roll bar from the 911S, a concession to originality that vastly improves its handling.

The history of this 911 is known right back to the beginning when it was sold new to Wayne Rindt in Appleton, Wisconsin. A succession of five owners all with recorded ownership took turns placing laps on the odometer and its present appearance suggests that all took good care of it. This 911 also comes with its factory books and tools that are still with the car. Documentation includes its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and service records.

The 911E is an iconic car that has delighted many with its power and excellent handling characteristics. Indeed, years of development contributed to one of the finest handling cars ever built. The car runs and drives well. The engine starts easily and the gearbox is smooth and positive. The steering is communicative and light in the way that has made the 911 famous. These cars are fast, nimble, and highly satisfying to drive, and with its original engine and seldom seen Conda Green livery, 9110200496 stands out amongst many of its peers.

    Auction Description:

    • Matching numbers example
    • Only one owner since 1994
    • Older restoration ('94-96) holding up really well.
    • Offered without reserve

Built for the US market, this Porsche 911E remained there until the beginning of the 1990s, though there is no prior history available. By then the car was in poor condition and was brought back to Europe for restoration, at which time it was finished in dark grey with a beige interior (see photographs on file). The car was bought by a Belgian enthusiast and taken to Belgium where the complete, 'body off' restoration began in 1994.

The colour scheme was changed to the classic silver with black interior, the latter being completely restored and re-upholstered in black, the Targa top likewise. It should be noted that the very rare door pockets seem to have been restored/renewed, but they are fixed so cannot be opened, though they present beautifully. The original Fuchs wheels have been refurbished, and the complete re-spray carried out to a very high standard. The engine is said to have been overhauled at the same time, now more than 20 years ago.

After the works had been completed in 1996 the car was put into storage and driven only infrequently after its painstaking restoration. It was taken out only on sunny days, which is evident from looking at the car's underside, and it is hard to believe that the restoration was completed 20 years ago, so good is the car's condition.

The owner who had the car restored in the 1990s has now decided to part with it and purchase a more modern sports car. A recent engine check-up was carried out as the car had been standing for a long time, and at the same time the door alignment and some minor cosmetic work was carried out to ensure that it presents beautifully.

Accompanying documentation consist of a copy of the factory records confirming matching numbers; a selection of restoration photographs; Belgian registration papers; and the aforementioned 1991 'as found' photographs.

CPR rarely publishes prices but the softer market seems to be forcing the issue; it would be nice to get the VIN . . .

Certainly seems like a bargain compared to the 69E 'project' car mentioned on this forum yesterday that is currently on eBay. You could not buy that car and finish it to this level for any less money.
