BaT Description:
his 1971 Porsche 911T Targa left the factory finished in Tangerine and moved in 1996 from Washington State to Ohio, where it was kept by the same owner until 2004. The previous owner retained the vehicle from 2004 until the seller’s purchase in July 2018, adding just 3k miles over 14 years. The car is now believed to have just over 113k total miles, and power comes from a 2.2-liter flat-six paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. The engine was rebuilt in June 1998 at 99k indicated miles, and the gearbox received a rebuild in January 2002 at 108k miles. Service records dating back to May 1996 accompany the sale, along with an original owner’s manual and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.
According to the seller, the car was taken down to bare metal and repainted in Guards Red years ago. Documentation shows that a new windshield was installed in the early 1990s, so it is possible the repaint was completed around the same time. Today, the finish reportedly retains a good shine and displays several chips on various forward-facing surfaces. Per the seller, the targa top seals well and does not leak. The 14″ Fuchs alloy wheels are mounted on a set of matching 185/70 series Goodyear T-Metric tires.
Inside, the black seat upholstery is accented with a corresponding black dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. The cabin appears to have been kept mostly stock with the exception of a JVC CD player and Pioneer speakers. The turn signals are currently inoperable and the door pockets are sagging according to the seller. A correct 4-spoke steering wheel remains fitted, and in July 2018 both the clutch cable and clevis were replaced and adjusted to factory-specs. Currently the 5-digit mechanical odometer shows 13,041 miles and has rolled over once according to included documentation since May 1996. The seller has added less than 100 miles since purchasing the car in July 2018.
The 2.2-liter flat-six received a comprehensive rebuild in June 1998 at 99k indicated miles, and the 5-speed transaxle was rebuilt in January 2002 at 108k miles. Invoices for both jobs are included in the service history file. Aside from a 3″ Borla exhaust system, mechanicals have been kept stock to the seller’s knowledge. Previous records report that the pedal cluster bushings and a return spring were replaced in May 1996, and the tie-rod ends and left-rear wheel bearing were replaced in April 1997. This Porsche features engine #6116642 and gearbox #7116819, both of which are claimed by the seller as original to the chassis.
Underneath, the seller states that the engine has a small oil leak and a rust-hole is present in the driver’s-side heat exchanger. One paint bubble has been found at the bottom of the driver’s door. Maintenance receipts dating back to May 1996 are included with the sale.
