    My DIY solution

Here is my solution for NLA brown hot air heater hoses. I used USMC Black Leather Dye that I picked up at Tandy Leather Store. I used Acetone to dilute it because that is what I had, but I think they recommend denatured alcohol. It took a couple of coats but it turned out pretty good. The tan cardboard blended with the black and resulted in a slight off black color. Not exactly like the color in prior pics, but looks better than just plain tan IMO. And the price was right, sub $10. If this fades should be easy to re-dye it.

    Mark,

Much too light for this application.

It should be much darker than that.

Oh my gosh, Peter. What's wrong with using skin color for comparison?

When I tell the paint shop "Wisconsin Butt White" they know I mean Grand Prix White. When I say "California Butt White" then it's Light Ivory. Cuz you guys are known to walk outside in the sun naked once and a while.

I have an absolutely hilarious story on embracing racial diversity that happened to my wife and I 20 years ago.

    Can I tell it?

Ok, I'm going to take that as a YES!

19 Christmas' ago my wife and I were at Toys-R-Us doing a hard-target search for "Baby Tumbles" for our 2 year old daughter. There was literally a wall of them because of their popularity. Because my wife and I are both compact and built for speed (some might say "short") I asked the very tall black gentleman nearby who was shopping with his wife if he would hand me one from the top shelf. He gives it to me and I say "thank you". My wife and I just stare at it both wondering how the next 5 seconds will play out.

I calmly said to the guy "uhhh... would you mind grabbing a white baby for us?"

    The four of us guffawed!

They're "brown" only from age/oxidation/heat. Fresh and new they are BLACK. Sierra Madre had them, but you have to call an ask for the "original" stuff. Otherwise you get the silver PorscheAG/dealer stuff. The heater box/valve hose is orange silicone and Jim at EASY has the right stuff. Again the dealer stuff may be technically better, but is no where close to original.
