    Old Buzzards

The 911 was shown at another cruise night at a continuing care retirement village. It was a nice idea to bring the cars to show the residents. In the large parking lot, the cars were parked with extra space on both sides. When the conga line of golf carts headed toward the cars, my mouth dropped open. Soon, two were circling the Porsche like buzzards preparing to attack their prey. Very nicely, I tried to stop them, "Why don't you get out and I will tell you all about the car?" No deal. They just kept circling trying to get their "hot rods" closer so they could peek inside. Plenty of "choice words" were swirling around inside my head.

I chickened out and left. I didn't want to argue with the old buzzards and didn't want them anywhere near the Porsche.

    Sheltered workshop cuise in

In my hometown, there is a sheltered workshop for developmentally disabled adults. Last September, they held a "cruise in" fundraiser. The charity events are heart warming.

The residents really enjoyed the shiny car and wanted to touch it. Of course, that couldn't happen. But, there was a work around. After checking for jewelry, watches, and belt buckles, each resident was handed a microfiber cloth to rub the car (with supervision) and make a wish. We all smiled and laughed over it. It was such a small gesture but so important.

The 911S is shown in various car shows ... PCA events, regional concours, local car shows and cruise ins, and charity events ... all of them are worthwhile experiences. The variety of car enthusiasts is amazing and they are such interesting people. Even the "characters" are enjoyable!

This is one of my favourite threads to read. I too have a Sepia Brown 2.4 S but mine I made a shade of Slate Grey, I just don't like Sepia but I love reading about Candyce's Sepia one !

Happy New Year from Cork in Ireland.

    Musings

Thank you, Dave, for the kind words that made me smile.

I understand about the Sepia color. I'm not so sure I would have ordered a brown car. Hopefully, that car will be brown forever and it will remain original. My goal is to take good care of it.

Most of the time when I write, I focus on the people and the experiences. The idiosyncrasies of the mechanics of the early 911s baffles me. It is difficult to get a definitive answer about anything. There is much I will never know. It is a challenge to stay on top of things.

I am thankful for the good advice and the willingness of the members to answer my questions. Simple acts of kindness are powerful.

It is such a "hoot" that the members read my reflections, or depending on your point of view my "BS." I just enjoy the escapades with the S. What will happen next?

May 2015 keep you and yours safe. Happy New Year!

    Car Talk, a Universal Language

My other passion is gardening. Yesterday, I volunteered at the Master Gardener "seed exchange table" at a conference with two complete strangers. Working with seeds and the public can be tedious and an interesting conversation helps the time to fly by. After discussing our gardens all morning long, the conversation lagged.

What to do? So, out comes some photographs of the 911 and the exchange livened up. They were surprised that I own and drive the S. Soon my companions were sharing their car stories plus family car stories. Everybody has one. The afternoon flew by.

Every time I talk about the little brown car, people always come back with their story. Are the stories true or hyperbole? Who knows? But, that is all part of it.

Always loved the puzzler on "Car Talk,"

    Rolls Royce Rita

Two years ago, I joined an early European car club, FuelFed. Yesterday at their swap meet, I met Rita. On my table was a long white shop coat with a Rolls Royce emblem. Its origins are a mystery.

Rita owns and drives a Rolls Royce, is 77 years young, has a granddaughter named Candace, and was dressed head to toe in pink decorated with Rolls Royce pins and emblems. Under her pink cap, her big, blond hair had to have been a wig. I knew I had a sale. The shop coat fitted madcap Rita perfectly. She plans to wear it as a dress accessorized with her Rolls Royce belt and maybe a bit of bling.

The shop coat was folded and placed in a Nordstom's bag. Rita peeked inside and asked, "Can you refold it so the Rolls Royce emblem is on top? I want to show my friends."

I hope to see Rita driving her Rolls Royce and wearing her new dress!

Chuck, Rita's enthusiasm and attitude is a great example for everyone. She is a Rolls Royce "car chick."
