That might be a fun one... although I was always under the impression these were not delivered with a new car but with pre-cut replacement keys. Thoughts?

I thought they came with the car... I'm admittedly not that knowledgable on the subject though.

Maybe I should have actually read the tag at some point. 'Keep card in a safe place - replacement keys can only be made if the key number is quoted.' Looks like the tag went with the car.

Any idea of when DOM started attaching these to the keys?

The cars that I remember delivering in 72-73 had the black (driver) keys handed to the new owner and the red (valet) keys tossed in the glove box. (then you could lock them in for security) Many owners didn't know what to do with the red keys since they seldom used a parking attendant. That is probably why the red keys that are still out there are in good condition. They had the card on them, like the photo. I think maybe the card for the single sided keys (-70) was different, but I didn't see many new ones.

    Harvey,

Now that you mention it, I don't ever remember seeing that tag on the pre-'70 all metal keys, just the '70 and up plastic headed keys. Doesn't mean it didn't exist but when I sorted parts for an independent shop in high school we had a drawer of red plastic headed keys with that DOM tag.

Slow day at work so I went ahead and did the graphics for the tag. The trick will be finding the right pulpy, yellowish paper to print on.
