question for the experts , if you take a 69-73 std seat runner and weld on the metal strip with drilled eye's as per photo would it not be a good replica of the rsr style? what am i missing seems to easy?

Nope, That won't do the trick.
The profile of the runners on the right hand side are different.
The LWB runners are also a lot heavier and wider.
You can use the LWB runners to build replica's for the later slid/tilt frame runners.
The bottom runners seem to get lost a lot.

John:
I have thought about this solution too. I think it makes sense as a reproduction item, and it is very hard to tell that the runner is wider and shallower. Nothing in the repro world is an EXACT copy, and the availability of the later style runners makes them a good candidate. I would like to have a couple of sets myself made that way.

In that case I would rather repro them based upon a SWB runner. That would be a better match to the original dimensions and lighter in weight.

I would agree, using SWB runners works too. The weight of the solid strip welded to the bottom is probably greater than the runner itself I think. If a guy is worried about weight, he would never use the tilt type mounts for sport seats. He also wouldn't use sport seats if he is worried about weight....they are 'rocks'.

Ha ha,
Yep you are so right!
That's why I will put the Sportseats in the 911S targa and the Lollipops with X-bars in the Hotrod
I must say the 74 type recaro slider are not the lightest versions also, but the seat is a lot lighter than the sports seats.
Nothing beats an early RS lightweight bucket though, they are incredibly lightweight, they would have to go with lightweight runners and x-bars...

Alex, the lollipop seats are also lightweight seats if you compare the size of those things!! :-)

Well, they are light, but the set gained a little weight with the leather and papita fabrick.
The other (single) one I have is in its original configuration, much lighter than the others

I had them in kevlar, very light!
Now back to the runners
- twinplugged - 1975 targa former Dutch police car
I have looked into this, the standard runners that bolt to the floor for the standard seats "can" be modified by adding a strip of metal to the bottom and drilling holes on the drop down end. HOWEVER, they are still narrower than the original and they rattle in the mating piece, with a little side to side slop. Not exactly a proper fit....
To do it right, you'll need to have these extruded like original, but it's very expensive. I've got a quote on my desk that bears this out. Good luck! I hope someone does repro these as I've got a bunch of seats that need these runners. On a side note I do have one more supplier I met at SEMA that said he might be able to do them, and I'll get back to all if this looks feasible with a different production method.
regards,
Eric
