    118300XX

    is this a S 911

    11- 911
    8 -1968
    3 - S model ?
    0 - coupe
    XXX ser #

    Does 68 decode like this .

    There was a thread here that discussed this, as I just purchased 002 S for 1968 and I think you are correct. I can find that for you but know others will likely know for sure.

    If your 3 had been a "0" it would have been a S coupe. Your "0" goes w/ the XXX, so should be 0XXX (4 digits).

    you're close, the first three are correct, however the fourth digit relates as follows;
    0=S coupe
    1=911 coupe
    3=U.S.911 coupe
    5=S Targa
    6=L Targa
    7=T Targa
    8=U.S. Targa

    The last four are the sequential VIN numbers, and of course the S was not imported to the U.S.

    thanks guys. i really thought i had a S with that (3) number,

    So it looks to be a normal 68 911 which is a rare bird itself no.. has wide trim

    The 3 for S starts with the 1970 number scheme.

    Actually, it was '69, using a nine digit VIN length, one more than 68, but similar format (119300xxx). That is where his confusion probably lies.
