Thread: Brumos 73 RSR Daytona Replica

    Brumos 73 RSR Daytona Replica

The guys at Aase Sales have a very special new project underway. Starting with a VERY accurate 73 RS replica, they are deep into converting it into a replica of the 1973 Daytona 24 winning RSR driven by Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood.

Making the project even more special is that it is "Brumos approved" and if all goes to plan, Hurley Haywood will be driving this car on the circuit during the pre-race festivities for the 51st annual Rolex 24 at Daytona. 40 years after winning in a similar RSR, Hurley will be serving as the Grand Marshall for the event. The RSR will also be on display as part of the historic exhibition at the track.

More photos as progress is made.

There are at least a half dozen of these cars already floating around. Clones fell off the fiscal cliff last year. I guess the folks at Aase believe in the recovery. We'll know in a few months.

Interesting point, but this is one of those situations where buying/selling is not part of the equation. Aase's new owner, Ron Thomas, is a huge fan of Brumos and has a very good relationship with them. He was already looking to convert the RS to a RSR and this seemed a natural progression since he already owns a couple other Brumos cars. This car is not being built for resale, but rather for Ron's personal collection because it is something that he truly loves. The fact that Hurley will drive it at Daytona makes it even more fun for him.

Side point: the original car is long lost, believed to have been either destroyed or perhaps re-shelled by the factory after the race.

IMHO... a bitchin car is a bitchin car.... replica or not.... I haven't had dealings with AASE, but their rep', is that they know what they're doing...

Cool project. Maybe they should aim for how it looked at the END of the race, not the start.

Great photos, John... was the first taken on a practice day? I see the headlights have retaining tabs in the "after" pic.

Man, that thing took a beating.

Wow! Thank you John for the photos. If anyone has any detail shots of the interior, these would be greatly appreciated. Good call on the headlight retainers Russ!

Donahue & Follmer were winning for most of the '73 Daytona race until a holed piston ended the bid:-)
