    Thumbs up

    Curt,
These Friedman pics are so cool and interesting it’s hurting my head….

The ‘Alan Johnson 911 1’ #272 photo is really significant historically to me. For one, I was probably at that race, but moreover one can put a timeline on the place, cars, drivers, and grid.

-Johnson was driving his No. 1 orange 911S for Richie Ginther when he still had a one car team out of Competition Motors (later that year running a second car for Milt Minter)
(Johnson earned the No. 1 by winning the C-Prod championship the year before)

-Next is Bill Young in his yellow Elan out of his own shop Bill Young’s Lotus. (when Elans were still in C-Prod, later to be in, and dominate D-Prod)

-Then it’s either Scooter Patrick or Davey Jordan in the two team Shelby Toyota 2000’s (a one season factory/Shelby effort)

-In between the two Toyota’s is Milt Minter driving Vasek’s 911S that Davey Jordan drove the year before. (later that year Milt won of the most memorable races ever at Willow agaist Scooter in the Toyota on the last lap... )

This would probably make it sometime in the early part of the 1968 season…

This was some of THE best racing EVER……..

    Thank you Curt… WOW

Interesting background Chuck. The thing I find fascinating about the 1967/68/69 seasons is that the racing 911s were just lightly-modified production cars (save for the R and a few others), particularly in the USA. To compete and win with a production car says everything about the basic 911 design.

The 68 set has some excellent candids in it. Speaking of the R, nice shots of chassis #15 here:

American D spoke wheels were used on most of the 911's in the early days it seems.

    Regards

Another interesting detail is many of the 911s have electrical tape across the front and rear turn-signal lenses - while it was common to use tape to secure the headlights, I had not previously noticed it here.
