Schiefer, can you loosen the clamp on your brother's engine just to see the color under the clamp?

FWIW guys, here's a photo of my paper/foil tube. It's been on the motor since the 80s @ which time the car placed 2nd @ the PCA National Parade. It's entirely possible that the grading criteria were different back then, but I have taken this as a sign that the tubes are "correct".
The paper is a brownish color and isn't any darker under the clamps.

Will do. My brothers car is away getting the whole suspension rebuilt, but will snap some pics when itīs back. Kent has already answered regarding color under the clamps, but my brothers hoses are a bit darker so it will be interesting to compare. I will also post a picture of the ones available from Sierra Madre when I receive it from Jorge.

Regarding 370 vs 380mm, I would think that should be no problem, but did not pay attention when I installed mine, so would appreciate that confirmed by the experts.

Attaching a pic of my new hoses from Porsche. OK from distance, but looks and feels very different up close. Also note the hose clamp ordered on correct part number from the factory....

And you have the old school cheeseheaded screw in the hose clamp to boot. Details...

    Mine looks the same

    Guys,

I 'painted' mine with Rit brand black clothes dye, available at Kroger grocery store here in Cincinnati. Because it is water based, you can thin it out to any strength. I paint my hoses with a brush, let it dry for a day and install. soaks into the paper and looks brand new black. I also use it for the pre heat lines to the Carb covers on my 1969 912.

    For reference
From the 69 brochure Eleganz Komfort Sicherheit Leistung, a nice reference shot of the 69S engine showing the originally black hoses:

Are the hoses from the engine shroud to the heat exchangers and the ones that connect the heat exchangers to the flappers the same? It sounds like the o.p. was working in the flapper (heater box) area.

Thanks for posting the 1969 photo as a reference. This clearly shows the hoses as NOT being black, but instead a dark gray that appears slightly dull. You can see how it contrasts with the rest of the black parts around the hoses. I think this answers the question.

I think the best source is always a well preserved NOS piece.

the correct color is this: very very dark brown , NOT black, like the photos in the 70ies brochures ( that are WRONG).
