    '65 Gas Tank Finish

This is real. This is original. This is untouched. A trifecta of sorts.

Looks great, Chris. I'm still looking to find something that will also work.

That does look good. My april car is grey no texture and still has sombrero it has missing pieces in it so a good replica is much desired.

    Chris,

    This looks really nice!
    How did you do that?
I am still a newbie in this kind of stuff, so I am learning.
Is that a kind of texture that you pulled over it with glue?

Or like trdking is saying: is there a good replica on the market?

I used a bitumised, adhesive backed sound deadener sheet @ 3mm thick and used heat to form it to the shape.

It does indeed look close. I believe the bitumen is very close to the early composite material. If you look at the original in the photo prior you see the heavy fabric cords that are also present in mine, though mine has long since dulled to the color of your reproduction. Have you found or looked for a bitumen product that has heavy fabric cording? I believe you are onto something here!

I'm still hoping Eric will come up with something. His products are awesome!
