The correct ones are interstate u911, but gel-mat batteries for a Miata work out pretty well, slightly smaller, and you really can get by with just one.
looking for 1972 911t motor XR584, S/N 6121622
Drive the car to Batteries Plus or some other battery store and see what fits. Otherwise, mail order a pair of the U911's. Susquasian (sp?) makes a gell battery that fits perfectly. Mine only lasted a couple years so not my recommendation.

Sonnenschein batteries . They have lasted for years in my car . Ed Mayo likes them which I think is a good reference .
PS : I would not put a container of sulfuric acid in my early Porsche .

I've had good luck with the U911 batteries from Interstate.
The batteries from Porsche? Not so much.

6 years, 3 months and going strong, on my current Porsche batteries...
My Porsche batteries were charged, but then sat at the restorers for 4 years. Charged them up again and vroom, vroom. Perfectly healthy.

Did those, they cost an arm and a leg... Seem to be good ! One morning I came back to them completely discharged after a cold night. To this day no idea what happened... I thought they were toast but nope, took a charge and been juicing ever since.. Note that they're a very tight fit re: connectors contacting the battery box w/o insulation. Personally - as much as I like those - next time I'm buying cheaper ones that are a little smaller for comfort over bumps !

I just purchased a pair of Interstate 911 batteries this past Spring. Strongly recommend you hook up your batteries to a battery tender, as I have done.
