67S COA - Transmission Change Noted

Just received my COA from Porsche for my recently purchased 67S. PO noted he did not know if the transmission was original, but I see on the COA that it notes the transmission change (to the one now in the car) at 31,000KM.

I thought I would post this here, as I (or the PO) had not seen this before.

Anybody care to chime in? I was thinking that this would certainly help with a 'numbers matching' situation - i.e. making my car a little bit more numbers matching.

This SWB kardexes often had handwritten notes on them showing changes like on your car.

There are other examples of factory documented transmission changes on the forum, so do some looking around

Heck, the transmission change is a minor thing; interesting, but not too unusual.
There was a Kardex floating around showing engine, transmission and a body change; That makes matching numbers a bit difficult.
Thanks for sharing though, every bit of info is useful.

If your engine case number isn't too far out of range with the number reported on the COA it may have been switched at the factory when it was new. IE its the original engine.

Not sure how often that happened but I was told by someone who would know that it is not that uncommon.

I don't believe this statement to be true.

The engine number is 961552, but the original is 961565...so incredibly close. But according to the COA I should have 961552. Wonder if it is floating about somewhere.

Thank you for posting your document, here

I have never seen a Certificate of Authenticity with a notation like yours --- referring to a transmission change . . . ever

Maybe Porsche is pushing to make these things more complete/accurate?

The factory did authorize your transmission replacement per the COA. I think that does nothing to diminish the value at all.

Chevy did CE blocks on Corvettes and others that got blown up. The CE (Counter Exchange) is generally accepted as proof that it was a factory authorized repair. On Corvettes people can get a bit prickly but if it can be proven with "legitimizing" paperwork it's all the better.
A POP and documentation are always your friends.

    Out of left-field; here is a factory 2.0 911-S replacement engine. It's a 901/02 Mg case.

This was in a 914/6 where the owner made the mistake (imho) of installing a '73 E engine. This one was a strong runner according to his accounts and probably perfect for the application. Bigger isn't always better. He realized after making the swap that heat was his new arch nemesis.

FWIW: I'm saving the wire set for a 74-77 restoration.

I don't either. If the factory went to the trouble of noting the tranny change on the COA, i should think they would have updated any engine change info as well.
