Button next to steering wheel Help?

My car has a black button to the right of the steering wheel. I've checked under the dash and the button has two cables: (i) goes behind the key cylinder and (ii) goes nowhere (seems like the cable was cut). Any ideas what this could've been used for?

Absolutely no clue, most likely owner installed additional lights? Anything on the car beyond normal equipment?

Looking at pictures from when the car was pulled out of a garage after 25 years, I couldn't see any non-factory lights. The car is pretty original with no add-ons, but maybe at some point the prior owners had something else installed in the car. Only non-factory items are the two aftermarket speakers above the back seats...

It could be a starter button. My car had a momentary push button switch installed to bypass the starter position on the key switch.

I know there is a hole there. I am not sure what went in that spot. I used it to install an intermittent wiper timer (Great upgrade if yo ask me). Wonder if that is where something like the webasto heater switch went. So the geed news is it is not an extra hole in the trim, just someone used it for something.

It could be for a factory aux heater, the switch. That is where the switch was located for the later webasto applications.

My '71 has a rotary type switch in this location and based on the number of electrical contacts it appears to be a fader or balance knob for the radio speakers. I'll take a photo of the switch and post it here later today. I'm removing this switch during my current restoration, so if someone wants it they can have it for the cost of shipping.
