It's NOT the ONLY RS that suddenly 'found' the matching numbers engine....
Printable View
I doubt the engine number is an original stamping, the '2' does not look right but this is definitely the best looking close to original font I have ever seen.
Wonder why they have not connected the wire, or was it just to make a good picture of the number? This RS has no rear seats, only the flat with storage below and two lids.

PS I had another look at the engine number and start to believe it is genuine...
I didn't disconnect wire or do anything other than open rear for photo
Couldn't get photo of the vin becase the dealer had his stuff in there.
Because of thread on thin Sekurit I noticed glass marking was ( for most part) not original including the side and rear screen
Don't know about this one but I have helped my friend with swap over to reunite a speedster with its engine that a customer of his meticulously traced by going back through history and finding it in a previous shop ...but wonder how often such things can happen
here is the vin from another appearance, This car has had a chequered life but I am sure the shell is the real deal

Wasn't this car converted from LHD to RHD?
Cees
Hi Cees, I have it on an old authoritative list from UK (a RHD RS list that predates Dr K and his partner's research). It show that vin as RHD originally ...but who knows if it was ever converted to LHD and back again.
It was originally built around May 73 for RHD market Hong Kong. (Hong Kong was under British Crown rule from 1841 to 1997 excluding the Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945 ...hence its a RHD market). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...t-hand_traffic
I've heard also been to Japan according to Hugh and USA ( where I was told the most recent restoration was undertaken so would be interested to hear from folks in USA who may know it).
Haven't checked it in RS book and other similar public references beyond my handy vintage RHD sheet however.
The car I photographed is now in U.K. On display currently at a classic car show in Exel London Docklands. If any better photographers (not hard) are also there this weekend they might be able to take some clearer shots.
Steve
Ps not an RS thread matter but if ever there was a day to leave your pride and joy Porsche safely parked in your Swedish garage it was probably 3 September 1967, on which date traffic in Sweden switched from driving on the left-hand side of the road to the right.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagen_H

It was original HK delivery with correct country code C16. I believe it was original RHD. If it was not then there is another car around that would seem to be a LHD car due to where it was delivered but is actually RHD to make up the numbers for RHD cars made in total. I know of a car delivered to Spain that was RHD from the factory (but UK spec and country code C16 - RS1486) and one ordered from and delivered to the UK that was LHD (but Swiss country code C10 on it - RS1198) another one delivered to Germany but RHD (but again UK country code C16 - RS 1102)
So I think that while the country of delivery is usually thought to be the best way to work out if original RHD or LHD this is not accurate However in all cases where there are differences (that I know about) the country options code IS an accurate guide
So as this car has HK country code I would say that it is almost certain to be original RHD
Thanks Steve and Hugh, I'll would not doubt you both are right, it was just that I heard today it could have been a LHD once. Anyway, there are always story's to be told about these cars. Curious though about the 'original engine case'.
Best regards,
Cees
Another RS at the same show. it was part of an indoor moving display so not sure it is even for sale; also locked so unable to see the engine a stamps etc. I'm sharing it here for info. Pictures provided by somone else who was at show.
