Superb restoration, couple of detail to fix; wrong plier, later model compressor, knee pads 74+, no black behind horn grills, wiper blades a bit low. Guess that was the 0.6 points missing in the concours. Extremely nice and should bring much more than number 1014.

None of your critiques were the .6 points deducted. The knee pads had never been out of the car. I would like to know how you can ID a '74+ one. I also don't know how you can ID a later compressor. Doesn't the gal on the box look pre-'74? ;) None of the judges were smart enough to call me on these things - it was the famous "dirt", and an incorrect bolt from Taiwan, a windshield rubber that needed "cleaning", et cetera.
We had discussions about black behind the grills, and decided against it. How do you know black is "correct"? What is the correct pliers, and how do you know? (see here: post #1 http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...s-amp-Contents)

Am I the only who think that it is a pity to remove every trace of the competition past of this car?
Here is a Sport Carrera RS 2.7 properly used in period and it is back to its factory configuration. This is not the best move, I think.

Hi Rob,
The post 73 kneepad has a much more angled corner, pre 74 is more rounded. Thinking about it, your car is so late in the production that Porsche already changed to the new type. I have seen another car close to yours that had already new front trombone oil cooler with the longer connection pipes on the top. 72/73 compressors did have the rectangular foam feet and seen a couple that came originally with the RS. I think the 2.7 Carrera book (Snodgraas) has a chapter about them. Correct plier is the smaller Hapewe, plenty of pics in the tool kit discussions. Blacked out behind grill, late production body's had it. But in all cases here, I could be wrong...I was only 8 yrs old at the time..

Great input! The car certainly has a few '74 features on it. There is at least one body panel that is galvanized, for example. You have seen a later RS that has the trombone with long connection pipes? That's pretty crazy! It is interesting that no one at the Parade made any noise about black behind the grills. People on this forum are way smarter than Parade judges (not talking about you, Ed!).

Actually, and rarely discussed, there are three knee pads Porsche used during this period. The 69-73 as described above, a transitional knee pad used from '74 into '75, and the later style shown in this car that were used from late '75 onward. It's a beautiful car.
It’s looks to be a later jack too. At least it’s different to mine which I’m sure is original. The repro handbook (the ring binder gives it away) should really be German language but we are nit picking here. That is a car I’d love to own. It looks gorgeous.
