1973 Carrera RS Cars for Sale

Just skimmed the pictures while on tbe hoof which are very small on images my iPhone but questions on a few details:
- why 150 mph speedo changed from mainland European West Germany km ?
- even more curious why’s the early handbrake symbol on such a late RS third series vin; I suppose original could’ve failed but normally something that gets changed for earlier?
- looks to be replacement front slam aluminium vin tag — so many punched stampings ?
- not original paint tag?
- later bonnet crest ?
- under bonnet light?
- replacement front spoiler perhaps?
- front seat insert material looks smooth not corduroy ?
- toolkit not original
- no black under rockers etc?

Need to see it displayed on another device to view it better as that touch zoom isn’t easy to navigate — maybe none too big an issue to correct if authenticity is aim — but it’s curious why such details presented that way on a car that looks from those small thumbnails quite smartly presented?

This one reminds me of the condition of mine when I bought it in 1984. Cars that were fixed/repainted at the time were often "upgraded" with non-original parts- and often those wrong parts were viewed as an improvement! Some of the changes on this one like the speedo were probably the result of the federalization process when the car was imported. Others like the slam panel were just because that's what you got when you purchased that part from Porsche; they weren't offering the originals anymore. And still other inaccuracies were probably just oversights made at the time, like the wrong toolkit. Because back then who really cared?

So to me the state of the car as presented serves as forensic evidence to pinpoint the time that many of the repairs were made. And I'm intentionally avoiding the use of "restored' because that's not the process this car appears to have undergone. And if they actually did all this work recently, then, yeah, the shop and/or owner deserves some criticism.

Good points Jeff. One of the reasons I put my observations with question marks was there is no context (yet) in the listings writ up so not a clear if (for example) claiming to be an recent very authentic restoration which would be quite different to the orange car that sold at auction in London on November (for instance) where the seller was pretty candid both in the listing and in my chats during previews about the positioning of that orange car. Be interesting to see the blurb.

Yes, when my first RS arrived I nearly had a stroke when I noticed that but it is correct.
