1973 Carrera RS Cars for Sale

This is the spiel when it was for sale in 2022 at Kobas Cantraine. Seems to be a couple of inconsistencies to me but maybe i am too critical?

First owner in Italy who kept it until 2014. 41 years with just one owner, how many RSses can claim that? On top of that the car lived an easy life and was never modified over the decades into a G model SC or 930 in the days when a 73 RS just wasn’t cool enough anymore.
The car had been kept in a well maintained condition but was in need of a restoration. (It had been repainted at different times on different area’s of its body and there was some minor rust that needed to be treated.) When the last owner purchased the car he decided it deserved a full restoration and the car was stripped to bare metal and completely restored.

The matching numbers engine was rebuilt and all of the running gear gone through from front to back.
Recently the car was given a big service, the mechanical fuel injection was tuned to perfection and the suspension set as if it had just rolled off the assembly line in 1973.

The documentation recaps the car’s ownership history, the car before the restoration, the complete restoration work and all recent work executed on the car.

The vehicle was owned by the father/son family from 1973-2014 and was sold to a businesswoman in Monaco where the vehicle remained until 2022. Sounds like the "businesswomen" or "he" in the previous ad did a bit more than keep it as a "100% original vehicle with a thin sheet metal chassis, all RS-specific body details are original and untouched, original thin glass from Glaverbel and many beautiful details are present on the vehicle." or is their definition of "original" different to mine

I agree on the tangerine car - there was not one that matches all of those criteria.

The closest is Tangerine 9113600198 delivered Germany 111 (Berlin 31 Eduard Winter) in December 1972, M472, interior 11 (just black leatherette), NO M409, BUT ALSO M549 Shoulder lap belts and M650 Sun Roof However 0198 was one of the few cars with Dunlop tyres


There were only 34 cars (and one M471) that had option M452 and only 2 of them (this car and a French tourist delivery car, 0763) were Tangerine. The French car, apart from being a second series, had M220 (limited slip diff) and M258 (L&R headrests) but did have M409 but also M461 (power antenna on RHS)

However if you ignore the M452 Radio and start with 113 Gottfried W. Schultz, as they are close to or at Ratingen, and then look for other options then you get 4 matches although 3 of them have additional options like M220 The remaining one is 0329 but even then it is shown as a January car not a November / December car.
The only December car (0216) did not have M409 (and had Pirelli Tires)

There was a 112 Hamburg 13 Raffay car produced in November (0059) in tangerine that had only 1 sport seat (M410) plus M419 (retractable seat belts L&R) and no other options so maybe that also would be a contender. However last seen it was painted Beige grey and for sale in the USA in 2008

The only cars that might fit the specs from Germany 114 all had M220 and other options not mentioned

However Germany 115 Fellbach b. Stuttgart Fa Hahn Automobile, had 0301 That had M409, delivered in December and had a leatherette and cord seat but again Pirelli tires

Germany 116 Munchen 80 MAHAG Max Moritz did not have any that came close

The tangerine M472 not sure about, very few (3) had Dunlop tires mounted per factory, all others Pirelli. If we know the dealer number it might get a bit easier to find the chassis number. Have not found a 1st series German delivery with color code 2323, interior 11, and option codes 409 (Sport seat L/R) and 452 (Frankfurt radio).

If so might that small restoration explain the later rear slam ;) ?

and the front slam panel and battery boxes by the look of the photo

Sales material the images or words don’t show a vin so not one hundred percent certain of course but if If the two photos are indeed of the same RS chassis then seeing the stripped car in photo makes it interesting to read comments, such as:

- “all RS-specific body details are original and untouched” …. the rear arch extensions were RS-specific, weren’t these distinctive rears even called Carrera arches?

- “The original license plates still exist and were mounted on the vehicle” but are the panels the original licence plates were attached to still attached to the car?

Or maybe something is getting lost in the German to English translation?

I would call it an extensive body restoration of 0945 and use of todays' available body panels like the slam panel. New rear 0.8mm thick panels are re-issued by Porsche although doubt the arches are welded in like in 72/73.
I have pictures of Italian license plates when it was for sale in Belgium, definitely the same car.

Good Shelock Holmes work on the tangerine Hugh, I'll see if I can find out more and confirm it might be 198.
