There was a very active club racing scene in UK from early eighties through much of that decade where original RS were used to great effect. Inevitably some genuine examples got damaged — in some cases damage on top of the damage inflicted by the rally boys who campaigned a number very hard in UK / Ireland. Arguably it is better history that 73 RS was used as intended but what was done to the cars damaged varies considerably.
Like mine did. Luckily it appears to have survived without a major incident…according to people better qualified than me. Reality is there are very few UK cars that are original because of the climate….at least mine has an excuse for it!
Modified at the end of 1973 ready to go Rallying (you can tell how big the bodywork budget was !)

It’s one of the nicest RS colours imo — if memory serves me well your car is one of just four in that particular hue from just 42 RHD EG/C16 British specification M472 Touring among the original 500 RS chassis conceived to gain homologation? In England back in the day the factory Dalmatian blue was sometimes referred to as “Sea Blue”. One of the other Dalmatian Blue RHD Touring also built before the end of calendar 72 that was sold new in Scotland was at one time owned by a knowledgable member here.
And nice car enthusiast in flat cap who I was chatting to (mainly about Lotus Esprit Sport 350) a week ago at the bar London’s Peninsular Hotel owns one of the calendar 72 built RHD Touring in Dalmatian Blue a well known EG/C16 car.

He told me while he’d had a few 73 RS he preferred his current early RHD Dalmatian Touring over those others, that had included an M471 Sport.

Club racing picture looks like Snetterton in Norfolk - I would have been there. I rolled one of the racing schools Escort's into the farmers field - 1st corner after pit straight during a very wet session. Not one of my finest days !!
