Tom, never one to miss an opportunity for a good metaphor.
They're good guys over there; we all have our bad days.

But I shall make lemonade out of a sour apple. :D
What do you think of this high priced one?

Looks like a very well done car. it has been promoted quite a bit, and I believe was on this thread. Asking $95k .... wow. Maybe that is the new market level for a very original clean 914-6. And I thought I paid too much for mine- '70 with 58k miles.

It's been here before.
Condition 4 car sold today on ebay. GOING UP
Appears that there were 22 bidders, winner started at $20K and took it at $39.1
ar was repainted but defects were bubbling through. Pretty metallic green color from that era. Engine and trans apparently rebuilt. Interior looked to need work. Rust evident through pan from underneath shots. A restoration candidate.
The thing I have always found ridiculous about this stuff ( all makes and models ) is that today I can build a 914-6 GT M471 clone, with a 3.2, polybronze bushings, full leather interior, make the bumpers fit the body PERFECTLY etc. In short, build a FAR superior car than that original GT was, and it will most likely bring significantly LESS money than the official GT. For one reason alone....a row of numbers. Perhaps my opinion is based on the fact that I am a user, not a collector. Those numbers don't mean that much to me. Much like owning a Picasso or Rembrant. I'm perfectly happy to have a nice quality reproduction in a quality frame. The artwork as a whole, is what I find attractive and desireable. Not being able to touch the brush strokes. At the same time however, I will admit, I am a bit of an archaeology nut in all aspects. I would prefer a M16 that has seen action over an AR that is a fresh build. I would prefer to find a Megalodon tooth, over a reproduction one ( yes they repro shark teeth ). I would much prefer a mid level historic house ( pre 1900 ) over a newer equvalent. Hell, I buy old Tiki mugs over the newer repros.
I think I just confused myself.......
Newer better = Yes .............Older more OG = Best
Maybe not ..But the more the OG the better, its a sliding scale as time marches on........
I have a 914-6 not touched since 1976, is it 100% OG ? No, people liked to customize their cars...easy to fix ? Yes...still a piece of history, and correct for the period...right or wrong its what people do..
