Porsche 914/6 collectability

Guys,

I thought I could start here as this thread is the fount of all 914-6 wisdom ! :D
As you may recall from my previous 914-6 thread,I regard a -6 as unfinished business in my Porsche career.

I am doing a feasibility exercise to see what the going rate is for a good/high standard driver would be at the moment in the USA.
The car I have in mind would be something like Kent's car,which has gone back to Germany I believe.
My budget would be circa $45k US,allowing for some minor mechanical repairs but not for anything substantial body-wise.
I have looked at the Russo & Steel sale at Newport for $58k recently.
This is the sort of car I would be interested in but shipping and taxes here soon escalate to outside my budget at that sale price.
Perhaps the car I would be looking for may not even be for sale at the moment ?
I have someone in Orange County to look at cars for me but this should not be a restriction.
I will be using the -6 as my only car driven on a regular basis.
Should I advertise on 914 world or 914 club and are there any parties to steer clear of ? (pm as appropriate)
Any Ideas ??

There is a 914/6 that a friend picked up a few weeks ago for a project that he realizes he doesn't have time for.
The car will need restoration but doesn't look like the pile that sold on BAT/ebay for close to $19K.
Original engine is gone but it does have a number of parts that will be difficult to source like original heat exchangers that aren't rusted and a very nice original Leisteitz "6" muffler. Current engine is a '73 "E" sporting Webers.
The car is Light Ivory in color. Has an old respray but they didn't "jamb the doors" so the build decal is intact.

I have a friend that has a very original 914/6 that he wants me to sell for him. He's building a second home in Arizona and wants to put the money towards that.
The car is mostly original paint, original engine and transmission, still a tail shifter. According to the COA it has a limited slip and 14" Fuchs.
The car was sold new in San Francisco and then moved to Texas. Very rust free. The only modification is a sport muffler. Original rear valance has holes for the pipes and the original exit was welded up. An easy fix, although I like the sport muffler. Original air filter, no K&Ns etc. Still has the cold start solenoid, disarmed of course.
I found this car for him about ten years ago, it belonged to a good friend of mine. The current owner says he puts about 200 miles a year on it. The car has about 80,000 miles on it.
Orange!
He wants around $45,000. It's currently registered and drives very well. Very presentable.

Welcome to the family and it appears from the above, to the brotherhood of the orange-men. These little things are addictive. It's my favorite ride and I'm sure will be yours as well. A well sorted stock 6 moves pretty well.

Orange looks great! What's the ceiling on price for these cars? For the stunningly great original ones?
