#1014, which was offered to me in 2007, was restored, acc to its former Italian owner, 2005 in Italy.

That looks like the same car I have on my files from the Monaco sale, both the internal pictures and the engine. In the front compartment the strut brace was all painted in tangerine, but otherwise the same. the importance of the fan strap, yellow and single bolt v black 2 bolt can be seen in this thread. It would suggest that given #1014 was an April build that the correct fan strap would be as on this car and the two bolt black one would be incorrect for a car built that late. While not conclusive i think it is indicative that the car at highmarques.com is not #1014 and neither is the German one. :( one shows the paint badge that does not appear to be present in the German one.

I just noticed that the one in the USA at Highmarques still has a "Brubakers" sticker on the rear window. I have an old record of a #1014 being for sale at Brubakers in November 2003. That is well before the other car appeared at Essen in 2007 from Italy after restoration................. Hmm ... Interesting. I would want a forensic examination before I touched ANY of them :D

Hugh, I don't think that the Monaco'14 and Italian/ TechnoClassic'07 were the same...
There are so many details different(which could have been changed within 7 years), but the most obvious is the strut brace fixture

Wolf, I did notice that but can't get my head around that there may be 4 cars claiming to be this car and the one you saw and the Monoco one look "most alike" to me. The one in the USA has been there at least since the early 2000's so can't be the Essen car (it still has the stickers on it from previous ownership in the early 2000's) and the one in Germany not only doesn't have the paint badge on it in the photos but seems to have a lot of details wrong. It also does not have a strut brace at all (or an aluminium vin plate on the front slam panel) To me that car is obviously a clone given all of the wrong details.
is it the angle of the photo of the strut brace that is making it look different?

looks VERY different to when it was for sale last July at Coys at Blenheim palace. It was white with red at that stage with M471 doors, twin mirrors no chrome deco strips, and probably a few other differences. They have done a great job on the repaint, especially in under the front bonnet (although arguably the missed a bit of black detailing at the top of the front struts:-) )

I was contacted by a gentleman in Europe named Helmut Reis who claimed to have access to the original chassis for this car. I put him in contact with the owner of 0181 but my understanding is they could not reach an agreement and that the original chassis is being restored right now. I guess at some point this will be another situation where two cars exist with the same chassis number

Number 181 is among the earliest of the Touring models built. Porsche’s Certificate of Authenticity confirms it was constructed in the first batch of 500 cars between September and November of 1972, although like most 911 Carrera RS models it is listed as a 1973 on the COA. It was recently restored in Europe by a marque specialist, and is reported to be in excellent condition. Having left the factory in Signal Yellow, it is currently finished in equally eye-catching Orange over a fresh Black leather interior.
