Removing the warts

So, another thread and series of posts removed with absolutely no explanations given....:rolleyes:

Is the word "Raj" now banned from the site? If so, we need a sticky thread. Oh wait,,,,it was a sticky thread that got deleted. So here's the readers digest version of what I posted last night:

These heavy handed attempts to sweep the Registry's dirty laundry under the internet rug only does a disservice to the members. Locking threads is one thing. It's a good tool to handle situations but, erasing threads is a serious flaw in someone's thought process. If an individual needs to be "moderated" do it with PMs, warnings, timeouts, whatever.. When one arbitrarily controls "history", the truth is NEVER served. How are new members supposed to navigate pitfalls in our hobby if the pitfalls are removed from investigation?

All that is being done is allowing future individuals to be burned and all for the sake of "perception". I like to think that the overwhelming majority of the individuals that contribute to this site are more than mature enough to regulate themselves in a civil manner. We don't need Nannys. Lastly, this site is paid for in part by members of the Registry so, I would expect Moderation to think of themselves more in the terms of Stewardship of the contents of the Forum rather than Ownership.

Thought this needed to be said since there was no courtesy shown to those trying to help diffuse a confrontation between a member and another infrequent poster.

Damn. What did I miss?

Hopefully some light will be provided on this situation.

I dont envy the job of the moderator's and I certainly appreciate the time that gets put in by them but there is WAY too much censorship going on around here lately IMHO

I watched the melt down over at the 356Registry, and I would have to say that a big factor in the misunderstandings that ensued was due to heavy handed censorship of contentious threads. Some people have a difficult time expressing themselves in threads and that leads to misunderstanding and people taking offense. Censoring or deleting threads only makes things worse. Over there the contentious behavior led to lawsuits and endless bickering. Don't let that happen here.

Regarding Seb's thread:
It would be no stretch for an honest, casual observer to deduce that Chuck "The System" Miller was offended by comments and used his authority to punish the perps.

Sometimes one must put their own agenda aside when managing the broad, best interests of a community.
It takes very thick skin and tolerance for community organizers to be objective and rule without personal bias.

Chuck, I think if you took a poll here you would find very few who share your overbearing PC ideology.

Once again I am throwing my hat into the ring to become deputized as a moderator.
With the caliber of contributors here I honestly think it would be a very boring job if exercised without the iron fist.

LFNY posted his side of the story and I posted about my couple of transactions with Raj that went OK if but, a little quirky cause Raj always seemed to have 100+ irons in the fire at any given time and communication with him was often sporadic and disjointed. My experiences seemed to line up with the events that caused the altercation between Raj and LFNY if indeed it was Raj..

Next morning the thread was entirely gone. Great move guys! So who knows, maybe they did make a huge mistake posting that thread in the first place. Didn't do enough homework and rather than admit the mistake, tried to remove all history of the accusations. Of course no one had the courtesy to at least PM other members that their threads had been deleted with at least a reason why.

I realize that a mods job sucks, I get it. However, Moderation is the term applied to overseeing the rules of the forum and trying to counsel members where needed. It is not a tool to Censor history or posts in an indescriminate manner. We have rules for the forum. If clear rules have been broken, fine. Moderate individuals' behavior. If the rules are wishy washy and individual moderators are making personal decisions to Censor then that is a mistake as well. Tighten up the rules if you want a rated G forum, however boring that would be by God!

We all know that when we post, we do so on a public forum and that material in effect becomes the intellectual property of the forum. It says so right on this website. Don't then wuss out, bending over backwards deleting accounts when individuals decide after years of posting that they suddenly want their privacy. Who knows, maybe the Forum was scared off by a threat if Raj requested his account be wiped?

If Raj truely deserved banning (I have absolutely no insight into that) then he should have lost his right to demand anything from the forum. By bowing to his wishes (I'm assuming) the Mods just let Raj punish all the rest of us by no longer having access to the information he posted over the years.

If the desision to wipe Raj from forum memory was solely made by the mods then all I have to say about that is "boneheaded move".

I'm small potatoes on this registry but just want to comment. Bought a coil from porsche65ST (I think). Paid via PayPal. Had trouble getting the PayPal accepted with the PayPal address given. However, the coil arrived and was what I ordered and what was represented. Opened the box, but did not notice an invoice in the box. Eventually the payment went through and had I looked it would have indicated Raj. Didn't note that until I was updating my spreadsheet. Looked at coil several weeks later and finally noted the computer sheet at the bottom of the box. In addition to the price, there was a $10.00 shipping charge. E-mailed the sender and apologized for not sending shipping as it was not originally quoted. Offered to send but offer was graciously declined. Great transaction with a gentleman (Raj) on the other end. Perhaps the original PayPal/billing snafu I encountered has something to do with the origin of this latest problem.

With the mystery identity divulged, perhaps anybody who purchased a part should pay up if they have not already done so. Perhaps Raj will take back any part from anybody dissatisfied and pay the postage as well as a refund. I have been up here long enough to say I enjoyed Raj's posting. I must say I also enjoy some of the "testy' comments that eventually emerge in all threads. I don't enjoy snide comments about peoples buying habit, being cheap, superfluous posting and radical thread changes from things like: how yellow Irish green is to ending the thread with how to insert Elephant racing bushing (made up example). Just start a new thread when things start to go off topic.

My opinion is let Raj back on if he wants. He had some interesting threads and cars. Perhaps the guys from the Erste Grupp could chime in here. I think he used to do the Frenchtown breakfast with them.

Resolution is simple

these are complex issues at best and require forethought insight input form the larger body of members I would suspect?


I don't have the answers nor am I suggesting that chuck has no right to ban all products from banned members/no matter who currently owns them(forever) but I would suspect there should be guidelines and policies

Not many on your end of the spectrum are willing. It's a shame that all of that history is now gone. However, I expect that it is still there and could be reinserted into the forum again.

Would that be something you'd consider allowing even though you've decided to reduce your time on the boards from here on out?

At the same time the point of removing the content was to demonstrate to the moderators the power of all that contribute and the value is in the group over those that preside
And if those who preside don't value those that contribute then the system is backboards

The pain was felt by all of us especially me not because any of it was my glory but rather the void can't be replaced and that's what I wanted those in the power to understand and respond

I can certainly understand those that felt I was a sour puss who was about himself and my data but it was never my data or info

Having spent a long time over the years reading Raj's important contribution to many threads on the forum, I was shocked when it all disappeared overnight. It was a substantial loss to our community. If the moderators have the ability to restore the content, with with Raj's name or that of another, I believe they would be doing an important service to the members of the community.

I do not know of all the background that led to the controversy, nor do I wish to know: all I do know is that the knowledge and insight Raj has regarding our beloved cars is valuable to all of us interested in preserving the cars and their history.

So, please, moderators: reinstate the missing posts and lets all move on.

I'm pretty new to this forum and I probably post too much. I do have to say there is a certain edge to the conversations that I did not "get" right away. That led to Beck and I peeing on each other last month. However as I start to learn more I do expect to buy Frank a beer someday if we cross paths (but not swords)

This community is a microcosm of our civil society. (I say civil because there exist an evil society as well.) People have forgotten the basic rule: Respect one another. Civil discourse has turned into "If you don't agree with me I no longer respect you." Think about the ills of society. The root problem is that we've forgotten how to love and respect one another. I can love someone and vehemently disagree with them (Family?). Mr. Miller and I are polar opposites politically. Our world views shape our behavior and opinions. He does not share my view of God and I don't agree with his progressive ways. Because of this there will be contention, wrestling, and conflict. That, my friends is healthy as long as respect is maintained.

The next time you are tempted to be offended by someone's words, grant them some charity and assume that they are not out to get you but they simply communicate differently than you do. Seek clarification in what they're saying before you go off on them.

Personally I could care less if someone thinks I'm Riff Raff or a poopy head. My intrinsic value is not determined by what others think of me. My mission is to challenge status quo and to spur thinking. There will always be collateral damage while doing so. However, if you think I'm dishonoring you while jousting, call me out on it. Apologizing is something I do often.

moderators requested transactions be completed ( no ability to contact buyers due to moderators)

Product was shipped based on commitment via PMs and agreement

Product was received by buyers verifiable by tracking info

Product not paid for or returned

No communication from buyers via email or paypal

moderators contacted and advised of situation ( within a week of receipt of product by customers)

moderators promise to resolve

almost 8 weeks of no response

no actual evidence buyers were ever contacted by moderators ( as of today )

In fairness to members here and as I stated above, I had a devil of a time with the PayPal. The day I received the coil, PayPal was still saying they had not been able to get you, the recipient to receive the payment. I always pay as soon as I get a response and I am sure other members do the same. Being OCD, or worse, I keep checking PayPal to make sure payment went through. Learned early on that a payment can sit there if sent to wrong PayPal address. If I did not check and part arrived, I would assume payment has been made. Perhaps this has been a partial problem with payments for your parts?

Just catching up on this building drama.

A couple pages back you in essence stated you left the forum and decided to take down all of your posts and threads you had started (many of the key reference threads on this site) to prove some sort of point to the moderators. Then you say that the hobby is not about one person but about collective sharing, etc.

How can someone so concerned about the community well being, so in touch with the fact that this truly is only a hobby, be so at odds in action and words? Slashing and burning the content on the forum as you left in frustration seemed sorta drastic and not very community minded to many of us.

I'm not standing up for what has become questionable moderating around here lately, and definitely can't speak to whatever is going on with your parts (how hard is Paypal, really?), but there are definitely two sides to this.

I hope you return in your enthusiasm and you and the mods can get past whatever it is between you

Not saying you didn't send PayPal info. Only saying I paid via PayPal on the day I communicated the order and PayPal told me that no one was accepting the PayPal payment that had been sent. Go a message from you guys stating that would be straightened out. Guess it was ultimately done since my records reflect that you received the payment in your name. Just asking if possible that others encountered the same problem as I did and cancelled payments because not accepted (a PayPal option). Sorry if I am adding to confusion. Just want to believe better of fellow forum members.

This whole thread is painful and seems like a bunch of passive aggressive BS. For god's sake, put together a conf. call, talk to each other, sort it out, air gripes, get people their stuff, get it paid for, figure it out and fix it person to person. Get everyone back on the forum. I promise you that 1) it won't be fatal and 2) you will feel better after.

There are even FREE conf call services. This could be over this afternoon.

It's interesting, I've read all of "Joe's" posts as Porsche65ST and he has exactly the same problems with capitalization, grammar, and spelling that Original Poster does. I mean EXACTLY. Could just be a coincidence.

Bulls**t. I was one of the parties involved in the previous thread that inspired this one. A thread in which Raj posted our private communications in which he accused me of dishonesty and in which I responded by offering to teach him a very valuable, in-person lesson. I've tried to contain myself since then but the hypocrisy is more than I can take.

There is no Joe. Raj was banned and used a new user ID to sell his parts despite the ban. We all know that's the truth and the hypocrisy of this guy accusing other members of dishonesty, and the moderators of failing to act honorably, all while weaving an idiotic lie about some Mystery Joe and wrapping himself in the warm fuzziness of "just trying to help a friend", well, it's all just enough to make me want to puke.

Way back in March, after I returned your tookit, another well-respected member here on the forums contacted me on your behalf, inquired about our transaction, and told me you were behind it. I've had yet another member here, who did make a payment to Mystery Joe, confirm that the Paypal payment went to porsche65@gmail.com and that payment was to Va**an Sa******am (that's you, Raj). There was even talk around these parts about the similarity between your IP address and Mystery Joe's.

I'll say it again. You're a liar. There is no Mystery Joe. At the most, you've convinced one of your lying friends to back up your lie after the fact. Personally, I don't care how good your cars are/were and what information you used to share. I'm happier in a world where I can keep my distance from people like you.
